icddr,b invites applications from suitable candidates for the position of Data Management Officer with the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health under the Maternal and Child Health Division. The appointment will be made on Short-Term (CSA) basis for 8 months which is renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.

Position description  

A community-based, cluster-randomized design will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of an integrated “Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health Promotion Package” in Chandpur district, Bangladesh. The package of interventions is expected to raise awareness, increase social mobility and interactions, and contribute to a more stable social safety net . Consequently, together they have a potential to increase social capital in a community and thereby reduce harmful health outcomes. The intervention package will be implementation in collaboration with DGHS, DGFP and other local government bodies.

The Data Management Officer will work closely with DGFP, DGHS and other health data system, design data entry screens both in Windows and Android Platform, provide orientation to the data collectors, assist and encourage data collectors for regular data entry, coordinate with Statisticians and other GoB officials of the health facilities for improving data quality, supervise data entry, data cleaning WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF providing data for analysis and preventing data loss WITHIN the guidelines of the research protocol and organisational values and guidelines.

Duties and responsibilities 

Data Management, Editing and Reporting

  • Provide inputs to Data Manager to design database;
  • Prepare working file, analyze data and can prepare different type of reports;
  • Develop data codebooks; Clean data;
  • Check the data for errors in consultation with field staff; Backup database regularly on External HDD;
  • Create database views and write queries as per direction and requirement of DM/RIs/PIs;

 Data Security and Backup

  • Analyze various security policies and develop roles and permissions, maintenance of database security, confidentiality;
  • Identify various internal or external security threats of Database Application and mitigation plans, policies and procedures;

Support Services

  • Train the field staffs on usage of software and smartphones;
  • Collect feedback from users on existing programs for any changes required;
  • Make necessary changes; Provide continuous support for user queries on the field;
  • Resolve user queries related to hardware malfunction and interact with Admin team for repair;
  • Arrange training to develop skills of concern staff members on data management system;
  • Prepare documentation and maintain communication with related field staffs; Raise inconsistencies to supervisor and take action as directed;

People Management: 

  • Provide for an equitable environment for the development and growth of all team members;
  • Work with team leaders on resolving member complaints;
  • Work with supervisor to identify, mentor and reward high performers;
  • Organize for training of team members in order to build and develop an engaged and high performing team;

Required experience and qualifications

Education:

  • Masters in Statistics/ Applied Statistics/Bio statistics/ Mathematics/ Social Science / Management Information System (MIS) or Bachelor degree in Computer Science with good academic records; However, Educational qualification may relaxed to Bachelor degree if the candidate has a vast experience in developing software in Android platform and excellent knowledge and experience in Data Management Work..

The person assessed by the Selection Panel as most suitable for the position will be proposed for appointment. Selection among short-listed candidates will also take into account performance at interview, appropriate testing, and references.

Duty Station : Chandpur.

Number of Post : 3 posts

Salary : Tk. 49,763/- (consolidated) per month inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances. No other benefit is admissible.
