I. Job Context:
ICCO – Part of Cordaid is a leading INGO working for securing sustainable livelihoods, justice, and dignity for all in Bangladesh since 1972. Most of the implemented interventions are focusing on Food and Nutrition Security, Climate Smart Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction, WASH and Humanitarian Assistance in the geographical areas where people are mostly at risks of vulnerability and poverty (Northern, Southwest part of Bangladesh and Cox’s Bazar). Globally, Cordaid and ICCO have joined their forces on January 1st, 2021, and the new organization will have the expertise of both the organizations together.
The Communication Officer will be responsible for ensuring the proper and timely projects’ communication and visibility in the field, adhering to ICCO’s and donors’ branding and communication standards. The Communication Officer will work under the Head of Humanitarian Response, with the technical supervision of the Senior Communication & Marketing manager in Dhaka. |
II. Job Responsibilities : |
Content Development and Storytelling
- Regularly produce, design and circulate different types of communication and visibility materials as per project requirement, such as banners, brochures, brief, reports, finding, posters, case stories, translations, etc. (in terms of proper use of text, images and designing, the incumbent will be working with vendors).
- Collaborate with program staff to design IEC materials like flipcharts, videos on different areas like livelihood, women empowerment, etc. especially in the humanitarian context (in terms of designing, the incumbent will be working with vendors).
- Collect, develop, package and share case stories with internal and external stakeholders for learning and dissemination.
Branding
- Active engagement with the development of tools and templates, policies and guidelines that will help staff to become better communicators.
- Initiate innovative/new media communication platforms.
- Produce and distribute merchandising items for branding.
- Monitor and evaluate branding of all communication materials for external and internal use.
- Ensure compliance as per the policy of ICCO and various donors, including IOM, WFP, and GIZ.
Media Engagement
- Support the field team with media relations strategy that would ensure regular coverage of ICCO’s work.
- Help prepare media stories, draft media/press releases for local and international media.
- Regularly update the media contact database.

IV. Working Conditions: |
- Working days from Sunday to Thursday with 40 hours/ week.
- Any other Communications tasks assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
- ICCO HR, Finance and other related policies are applicable.

V. Key Qualifications and requirements: |
- Masters in Communication, Marketing, Economics or Development Studies from any reputed public or private university.
- 2 years’ experience working in a similar position in a national or international development organization.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proactive and willing to work independently.
- Highly proficient in MS Word, Power Point and Excel.
- Good understanding of using Google Drive.
- Excellent speaking and writing capabilities in English and Bengali.
- Previous experience in the humanitarian context will be considered an added value.
- Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop will be an added advantage.
- Punctual and good at time management and strong relationship building skills
- Understanding of protection and safeguarding issues
- Ability and willingness to work with people of different backgrounds
- Contribute constructively to a working environment based on mutual respect and trust
- Ability to cope with stress and work under difficult circumstance
