We are currently seeking a Technical Specialist with experience in market systems approaches and statistical analysis to join our consulting unit in Bangladesh to support our work in one of the most innovative and specialized topics that iDE works in- market systems resilience.

This position is suited for a dynamic individual with hands-on experiences in the data and analytics side of Inclusive Market Systems approaches possessing excellent analytical, writing and communication skills. Working collaboratively with iDE’s Global and Bangladesh team, this person will provide technical guidance on iDE’s market systems resilience methodologies including iDE’s MSRI tool focused on Bangladesh but also across iDE’s country offices. This is a full time position based in Dhaka (initially for a period of 1 year, and subject to annual renewal of employment contract), with frequent travel within Bangladesh. Learning and collaborating with other iDE programs may require international travel - when deemed necessary and safe.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct statistical analyses (descriptive analyses and hypothesis testing) of data collected using the MSRI in Bangladesh, and from other iDE countries using R, STATA or similar software.
  2. Develop a replicable analysis plan for iDE’s MSRI resilience assessment tool that can be used by other iDE country programs.
  3. Research, study and compile global learning, best practices, methodologies and related knowledge on market systems resilience related to iDE’s ongoing work in Bangladesh and globally.
  4. Design training manuals for country offices to use to implement MSRI
  5. Update analysis plans, tutorials, presentations and related MSRI documents for use at the global level.
  6. Design and/or maintain a set of methodologies, practices and tactical implementation guides for iDE to use across its global portfolio.
  7. Design, develop and implement a range of research to action methodologies (e.g. surveys, assessments, studies) focused on market systems resilience within a cohort of participating programs in Bangladesh and in partnership with others.
  8. Produce publication ready materials related to Market Systems Resilience including research papers, international quality presentations, and/or guidelines/ handbooks.

Education

At least a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Statistics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines.

Work Experience

  1. Strong data analysis skills using either Stata, R or SPSS, with demonstrated experience writing program (.do) files.
  2. A minimum of three years of experience in international development with a focus on data analysis, research, impact evaluation, economic development, livelihoods and/or social investments.
  3. Experience with quantitative and qualitative research - preferably in market systems development programs.

  2. Ability to work with team members and flexibility adapt to different work conditions.
  3. Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to gender equity and social inclusion.
  4. Proven interpersonal and intercultural skills. Prior experience working in an international organization and/or through consulting assignments will be a bonus.

Physical and Language Skills

  1. Ability to use standard software for data collection such as KoBo toolbox, ODK or TaroWorks.
  2. Strong statistical analysis skills using Stata, R or SPSS statistical analysis packages.
  3. Ability to travel and undertake fieldwork in rural contexts.
  4. Written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to present coherent and convincing messages to different audiences.
  5. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications.

Coordination

  1. The position will need to coordinate with different stakeholders including iDE’s Global Resilience Director and Sr. Director-of Impact & Analytics at iDE’s headquarters.
  2. H/she also needs to engage with iDE Bangladesh’s programs director, program manager and other program team members to understand the context and activities that are contributing to market resilience.
  3. Coordinating with global team members will require a willingness for occasional early morning, or evening, calls with team members abroad.

Financial Benefits and Conditions

  1. The payment will be made as per the deliverables accomplished within the timeline
  2. The position will need to submit the timesheet (as per the agreed work days/month) and deliverable for each payment 
  3. Payment schedule can be found in the annexure. VAT and tax will be deducted as per Bangladesh government rules

Other Information

  1. The position will be a consulting position with iDE Bangladesh.
  2. The remuneration package, workdays, and deliverables may change based on negotiations with the iDE management.
  3. iDE reserves the right to terminate this agreement at any time with the consultation of the employee as per HR policy.
