Position: Gender and Youth Empowerment Expert

Staff Category: Project Based

Reportable to : Project Director

Functional Relationship: Deputy Programme Director, Area Coordinator, Field Coordinator, Regional Coordinator and other technical and field staff of the Programme.

The Hunger Project Bangladesh:

The Hunger Project-Bangladesh (THP-BD) is the largest volunteer-based development organization in the country, with over 200,000 volunteers, implementing strategies of gender-focused community-led development across the country since 1991 to create hunger and poverty free self-reliant  Bangladesh. The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men, youth leaders, local elected representatives, CSO to end their own hunger using their own resources.  The Hunger Project pioneer of  low-cost, bottom-up planning focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income. Project Background

Multi-stakeholder Initiative on Peace and Stability (MIPS), is a five-year long Programme of THP. The Programme is funded by FCDO. The Programme will primarily contribute to defuse political, communal and ethnic violence. The Programme activities also relate to engage local peace volunteers and peace groups in violence prevention and conflict resolution, as well as ensure the participation of women and youth and their representation in governance structures at local level, including in CHT. The Programme will also contribute to improve political and civic space with a more collaborative and tolerant politics at local level.   

Summary Role of the Position:

The Gender and Youth Empowerment Expert will lead the inclusion of women and youth in the Programme implementation process. This position will provide strategic guidance and work on to contribute to the women and youth empowerment within the scope of MIPS Programme. S/he will also identify new opportunity and possibilities for the women and youth empowerment by introducing innovative interventions within the scope of project goal and objectives. S/he will also design various guidelines and communication materials related to women and youth empowerment within the project scope. S/he will also require to collect necessary information about the stakeholders’ recommendations to the Programme and the contextual changes at the ground to support the Programme Director to make the Programme to be adaptive with appropriate activities and implementation strategies in regard to women and youth empowerment.

S/he will facilitate to the interfaith peace platform (IFPP) including formation of IFPP at national level and local level, arranging coordination meeting and assisting the platform to implement its plan of action.

Details Duties and responsibilities

  • Mainstreaming gender into MIPS Programme Cycle Management (PCM) and contribute to the THP organizational development process integrating relevant gender perspectives into its various policy and processes. 
  • Integration of women and youth perspectives into the Programme Theory of Change, Results Framework, and M&E.
  • Design various events and prepare guidelines for these events related to women, youth empowerment and IFPP within the Programme scope.  
  • Contribute to the quarterly and annual report to be prepared by the project incorporating progress achieved by the Programme in regard to Women, Youth Empowerment and IFPP.
  • Manage necessary communication and coordination with the field colleagues for providing them support and guidance in regard to women, youth empowerment and IFPP effort of the Programme.
  • Building capacity on gender, safeguarding, Prevent Sexual Harassment Exploitation and Abuse  (PSHEA), women and youth empowerment and IFPP to Project staff/partner, Peace Facilitator Group (PFG), and Peace Ambassadors Network (PAN).
  • Contribute Programme research and Knowledge Management (KM) efforts incorporating relevant gender, youth empowerment and IFPP issues.  
  • Manage professional working relationship with the Programme stakeholders and improve the Programme effectiveness in regard to women, youth empowerment and IFPP for achieving Programme goal.  
  • Impart field visit for providing necessary guidance to the field staffs for improving quality of the field implementation in regard to women, youth empowerment, social inclusion and IFPP within the project scopes.
  • Contribute to prepare presentation, Programme brief and other necessary materials including various communication materials incorporating relevant women, youth empowerment and IFPP aspects.
  • Collect stakeholders’ recommendations, contextual changes at the ground, learning and best practices in regard to youth, women empowerment, IFPP and support Programme Director to redesign activity and/ or implementation strategies so that adaptive Programme implementation is in place for maximizing project impact.

Any other task assigned by management/Line Manager.

Qualifications, Experiences and Expertise

1. Education Qualification

  • Master Degree in Gender Studies/ Law/ Governance or any other disciplines related to Social Science.
  • Excellent command over in English and Bangla both verbal and written is necessary. 

Other Qualification and Experiences

  • Minimum 6-7 years’ work experiences in the senior position development sector of Bangladesh through National/ international NGOs with particular focus on gender and youth empowerment.
  • Age: Preferably  35 – 50 years
  • Sound knowledge in political, communal and ethnic violence in Bangladesh.
  • Solid working experience with the Multi-stakeholder Platforms for governance and reforms.
  • Good experiences on advocacy and policy influencing work with shared learning and knowledge management
  • A socially active person having good networking skills
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline
  • Expert level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook

Work condition 

Office based Job- 60% and Field job/travel- 40%

Compensation:  Only  gross Salary (Negotiable). No other financial benefits. Please mention your expected salary.
