THP-Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.

Project Profile:

The upcoming 12th Parliament election is very crucial for the future of democracy in Bangladesh, a number of interventions for empowering and involving citizens are required to increase the likelihood of making it free, fair and credible. The overall objective of this action is the promotion and protection of democracy as a democratic polity ensures human freedom and a better life for the people. The specific objectives are (1) Empowerment of voters, political actors and CSOs with information about the antecedents of candidates as a means of promoting free, fair and credible elections; and reaching a political settlement as means to building an inclusive, resilient and democratic society in Bangladesh and (2) Make youth, particularly the first-time voters, and women knowledgeable about the electoral and democratic process, and get engaged in strengthening democracy. This project will be implemented in thirty constituencies.

Job Summary

This project will be implemented through Shujan (Citizens for Good Governance) is a platform of concern citizens, working for strengthening democracy, and promote good governance and human rights in Bangladesh. To achieving the overall objective of the project of promoting and protecting democracy to ensure freedom and a better life for all-empowerment of voters, political actors, and CSOs with information about the antecedents of candidates as a means of promoting free, fair and credible elections; and motivating them to demand a long-term political settlement

Duty and Responsibility of the Position:

This is a mid-level position and the principal responsibility of this position are:

 Major duties and responsibilities of the position are:

  • Provide secretarial support to the Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN).
  • Arrange/support round-table discussion meetings, seminars, workshops on social, election and governance related issues in Dhaka and districts’
  • Communicate with distinguish persons and pursue them to participate in round-table discussion meetings, seminars, workshops.
  • Keep close contract with central, districts and committees of SHUJAN and provide necessary support.
  • Assist in collecting antecedents of the candidates, prepare comparative statement and disseminate among voters.
  • Arrange face to face meeting of voters and candidates.
  • Run campaign through social media for free and fair elections.
  • Collect candidates’ interview, prepare video and post these in the social media.
  • Educate the first-time voters through arranging democracy/election Olympiad in 30 constituencies.
  • Supporthe Project Manager successfully implement the project.
  • Develop contents and regular update Shujan’s website with help of IT department.
  • Arrange seminar, roundtable discussion, dialogue, meeting with relevant stakeholders  
  • Support to carry out advocacy initiatives and maintain liaison with the relevant stakeholders, government officials
  • Support for formation/reformation of the committees of Shujan at different levels and tracking the committees with update database
  • Educate and empower the voters through providing antecedents of the contesting candidates in the elections so that voters can elect their right representatives in the parliament as well as local administration
  • Prepare various monthly and quarterly report and newsletters.
  • Develop key note paper for press conference, roundtable, seminar.
  • Provide support in electoral and other research work.
  • Any other task assigned by management from time to time.

Educational qualification:
Master’s degree in economics, social science, political science, public administration or any other related social science from reputed universities.

Excellent command over in English both verbal and written is necessary.

Other Qualification and Experiences

  • Practical experiences, knowledge and skills in social media campaign and website content development
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ work experiences in the related fields in an international/national NGOs
  • Sound knowledge in electoral system and political culture of Bangladesh
  • Sound knowledge and working experiences in the areas of democracy, local government, human rights, local and national administration
  • Good connection with political activists and members of the civil society both national and local level
  • Additional requirement
  • Age 30 to 35 years
  • Expert level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, Outlook
  • A socially active person having good networking skills
  • Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills
  • Sets high standards for quality of work and consistently achieve the targets
  • Ability to work effectively in groups and independently; demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems
  • Ability to effectively present different types of report for a diverse range of audience.

Working condition 

  • Office based Job- 75% and Field job/travel-25%
