Organizational Profile

The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.

Multi-stakeholder Initiative on Peace and Stability (MIPS), is a five-year long Programme of THP. The Programme is funded by FCDO. The Programme will primarily contribute to defuse political, communal and ethnic violence. The Programme activities also relate to engage local peace volunteers and peace groups in violence prevention and conflict resolution, as well as ensure the participation of women and youth and their representation in governance structures at local level, including in CHT. The Programme will also contribute to improve political and civic space with a more collaborative and tolerant politics at local level.   


Job Summary

The Area Coordinator will work together with the Field Coordinators for the implementation of the Programme at the field level. S/he will maintain regular contacts with Deputy Programme Director and Technical Experts for obtaining necessary guidance to support Field Coordinators’ filed implementation. S/he will support and monitor the project implementation at the filed level maintaining necessary relationship with the political parties and other stakeholders at the local level. S/he will also guide the Field Coordinators to prepare the implementation action plan and budgets, solve field problems, and take part with the Field Coordinator in activity implementation, as and when required. S/he will require to provide necessary information to the Programme about the stakeholders’ recommendations and the contextual changes at the ground to support the Programme to be adaptive with appropriate activities and implementation strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide necessary inputs to the Deputy Programme Director, and Technical Experts for project planning, budgeting, reporting, and problem solving.
  • Provide necessary information to Deputy Programme Director about the stakeholders’ recommendations and the contextual changes at the ground to support the Programme to be adaptive with appropriate activities and implementation strategies.
  • Guide/ support the Field Coordinator for formation and/or activate, and provide necessary support to the Peace Facilitator Groups (PFGs) and Peace Ambassador Networks (PANs) for preventing political, communal and ethnic violence at the project working areas.
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with the Political Parties, Peace Ambassadors, and other stakeholders for their active engagement in the PFGs, and PFG planned activity implementation process. 
  • Provide necessary guidance and support to the Field Coordinators for planning, budgeting and implementation of project activities at the field level.  
  • Impart regular field visit for providing necessary guidance to the Field Coordinators and take part in field implementation, as and when required.
  • Identify innovative peace building events in consultations with the PFGs and Field Coordinators and bring those potential peace building events to Deputy Programme Director’s attention for necessary funding support to implement. 
  • Guide/ support the Field Coordinator in arranging various training, seminars and workshops with guidance from the Deputy Programme Director, and with support from the Technical Experts at the field level. 
  • Guide/ support Field Coordinator in monitoring and mitigating project field level risks and challenges taking necessary advises from the Deputy Programme Director.
  • Guide/ support/ participate with the Field Coordinator in provide necessary monitoring data to google data sheet to be prepared by the Programme, document case studies, best practices, and share those materials and learning with KM and M&E Expert to contribute the Programme Knowledge Management (KM) Process.
  • Maintain good functional relationship with both electronic and print media at the local level.
  • Manage Field Coordinators performance, and impart their performance evaluation on time.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the line manager for achieving project goal.

Requirement for the position

Educational Qualification
Master Degree in Social Science or Business Administration or any other related disciplines.
Good command over Bangla both verbal and written and moderate command over English both verbal and written is necessary. 

Other Qualification and Experiences

  • Minimum 5 years’ field coordination and implementation related work experiences in the development sector of Bangladesh through National/ international NGOs with particular focus on governance and reforms.
  • Sound knowledge in political, communal and ethnic violence in Bangladesh.
  • Some working experience with the Multi-stakeholder Platforms for governance and reforms.
  • Good organizing and communication skills and relation building capacity with the team and the Programme stakeholders.
  • A socially active person having good networking skills.
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline.
  • Good level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook.

Work condition 

Office based Job- 20% and Field job/travel- 80%
