Organizational Profile

The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.

Multi-stakeholder Initiative on Peace and Stability (MIPS), is a five-year long Programme of THP. The Programme is funded by FCDO. The Programme will primarily contribute to defuse political, communal and ethnic violence. The Programme activities also relate to engage local peace volunteers and peace groups in violence prevention and conflict resolution, as well as ensure the participation of women and youth and their representation in governance structures at local level, including in CHT. The Programme will also contribute to improve political and civic space with a more collaborative and tolerant politics at local level.   

Job Summary

The Deputy Programme Director will lead the implementation of the Programme and oversee the delivery of its outcomes. S/he will maintain regular contacts with field offices and conduct field visits on a monthly basis. S/he will facilitate the preparation of plans and budgets, develop implementation strategy and systems, solve problems, and do regular monitoring. The personnel will inspire and enlist the committed participation of senior volunteers from civil society and political actors, including women, youth and religious leaders. S/he will support the Programme Director in ensuring timely and accurate Programme reporting and documentation to the donor, and compliance with policies of THP and the donor. S/he will also work closely with the M&E specialist to develop and implement M&E tools. S/he will report to the PD. The post is based in THP-BD Dhaka Office. S/he will require to collect necessary information about the stakeholders’ recommendations to the Programme and the contextual changes at the ground to support the Programme Director to make the Programme to be adaptive with appropriate activities and implementation strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare implementation plan and budget and activity implementation guidelines in consultations with Programme Director and Field Staff.
  • Prepare quarterly fund requirement forecasting in coordination with the Programme Team and with guidance from Programme Director, MIPS and with support from Grants, Finance and Compliance Manager.  
  • Manage field implementation with guidance from the Programme Director, MIPS.
  • Manage and supervise the technical staff (on M&E, Gender Equality, Training, etc.) to be assigned for the MIPS Programme.
  • Manage super functional working relationship with the Programme stakeholders and improve the Programme effectiveness in regard to stakeholders’ participation for achieving Programme goal.   
  • Impart field visit for providing necessary guidance to the field staffs for improving quality of the field implementation.
  • Review and finalize Programme reports with support from technical staff and guidance from the Programme Director, MIPS.
  • Manage supervisees performance and impart performance evaluation of the supervisees on time.
  • Prepare presentation, Programme brief and other necessary materials including various communication materials with support from the Programme team.
  • Arrange various training, seminars and workshops with guidance from the Programme Director, MIPS and with support from the Programme Team. 
  • Collect stakeholders’ recommendations, contextual changes at the ground, learning and best practices and support Programme Director to redesign activity and/ or implementation strategies so that adaptive Programme implementation is in place for maximizing project impact.
  • Monitoring and managing project risk and challenges taking necessary advises from the Programme Director.
  • Maintain good functional relationship with both electronic and print media.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the line manager for achieving project goal.

Requirement for the position

Educational Qualification

Master Degree in Social Science or Business Administration or any other related disciplines.
Excellent command over in English and Bangla both verbal and written is necessary. 

Other Qualification and Experiences

  • Minimum 10 years’ work experiences in the development sector of Bangladesh through National/ international NGOs with particular focus on governance and reforms.
  • Sound knowledge in political, communal and ethnic violence in Bangladesh.
  • Solid working experience with the Multi-stakeholder Platforms for governance and reforms.
  • Some working experience with the main political parties in Bangladesh at both local and national level.   
  • Good experiences on advocacy and policy influencing work with shared learning and knowledge management
  • Good organizing and communication skills, relation building capacity with team and people of all sectors
  • A socially active person having good networking skills
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline
  • Expert level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, and Outlook

Work condition

Office based Job- 60% and Field job/travel- 40%

Compensation: BDT 200000/month (including all admissible benefits)
