The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. THP Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably.  It is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 250,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. THP has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.

Project Background

This Project will provide support to develop a cadre of future leaders, both male and female inside and outside of political parties, who have strong leadership skills and the capacity meaningfully contribute to policy debate and party reform. They will engage more tolerantly and constructively across party lines on policy issues and issues of national interest. This activity will work towards a future generation of leaders who, when the opportunity arises, will able to respond effectively and responsibly to the requirement of a functional democracy. 

The project activities will support to achieve the following goals

i. Political party activists and politically active citizens have the skills and knowledge to engage in decision making and gradually internalize inclusion and best practices into party structures at all levels;

ii. Political party activists and politically active citizens have the skills to engage constructively to mitigate the effects of conflict.

To achieve the overall goal this project will:

  • Various training and workshops will be arranged to increase participants’ knowledge of constructive and non-violent ways of citizen engagement for mitigating the extremism, electoral & political violence, communal violence; and
  •  Facilitate the building of a functional network of influential and committed individuals to prevent violence and foster peace-building.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Position

Under the overall guidance and the technical supervision of the  Director, the Project Manager is expected to perform the following tasks: 

  • The Project Manager will be responsible for overall planning, coordinating and implementing the project activities according to project proposal, agreement with donor and within budget allocation of the project.
  • Strictly look after the financial management of the project.
  • Lead, supervise and monitor the project staffs/team.
  • Provide necessary support to training team to design and develop training and workshop material/module.
  • Manage the day to day operations of project by facilitating professional work process to ensure alignment with the established policies & procedures and in order to high performance standards.
  • Keeps an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects.
  • Develop and an implement plans for project teams and provide clear direction and ensure that staff knows what is expected to them.
  • Ensure the projects procedures, the required deliverables, the required standard of quality within the specified constraints of time and cost.
  • Develop and design Advocacy/BCC materials.
  • Maintain close relationship with local political leaders, member of the civil society, local Shujan members and others stakeholders of the project to ensure their support to achieve the project goal.
  • Liaison with donor as and when requires, represents the organisation and prepare monthly, quarterly and/or as per requirement of donor’s reports of the project.
  • Work closely with M&E Specialist to develop and implement M & E tools.
  • Continuously review information and learning from field visit in order to advise the Project Director for strengthen project management.
  • Develop clear guidelines, tools, capacity building modules to support project implementation.
  • Organise and implement election related activities for free and fair election.
  • Any other work required by Project management.

Educational qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Public administration or other related social science from reputed university preferably from foreign university.

Experiences and expertise

  • A least 10 years experiences in the related field including 5 years in senior management position with responsibility of project proposal and report writing, resource mobilization, staff supervision and providing strategic leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Sound knowledge and clear understanding in political scenario and electoral process of Bangladesh, good governance, democracy, human rights and social issues.
  • Experiences of running big social projects independently or with minimum supervision.
  • Good connection with political parties, local political leaders, members of the civil society and social activists.
  • Clear knowledge on project management, project cycle and result based management.
  • Excellent team player and building relationship.
  • Exceptional transformative leadership skills for building leadership of others.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft ward, Excels, Power points and presentation.

  • Age 40 to 45 years
  • A socially active person having good networking skills.
  • Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Sets high standards for quality of work and consistently achieve the targets.
  • Ability to work effectively in groups and independently; demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems.
  • Ability to effectively present different types of report for a diverse range of audience.
  • Good organizing and communication skills, relation building capacity with team and people of all sectors.
  • Dedication, motivation, self-starter, ambition and commitment to the job as well as to society.
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline.
  • Willingness and strong commitment to travel in the remote field adapt hardship as well as working with any stressful situation and be a good team player.
