The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.
In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.


Project Background/Profile

Peace building and Social Harmony Activity is a multi-year project that has been implementing to promote multi-party engagement for enhancing peace and social harmony at the sub-district level across Bangladesh. The goal of this project is to increase knowledge and skills of political party activists and politically active citizens to engage constructively to mitigate conflict.
To achieve this project will:

  • Implement the PAVE training program to increase participants’ knowledge of constructive and non-violent ways of citizen engagement for mitigating electoral and political violence; and
  •  Facilitate the building of a functional network of influential and committed individuals to prevent violence and foster peace-building initiatives


Position Profile

This is a managerial position responsible for overall project implementation includes program implementation, staff management, finance and admin. Under the guidance of the Project Director, the Project Manager will be responsible for overall planning, coordinating, communication with different stakeholders, and implementing the activities according to the project proposal.


Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • The Project Manager will be responsible for overall planning, coordinating and implementing the project activities according to project proposal, agreement with donor and within budget allocation of the project.
  • Strictly look after the financial management of the project.
  • Lead, supervise and monitor the project staffs/team.
  • Provide necessary support to training team to design and develop training and workshop material/module.
  • Manage the day to day operations of project by facilitating professional work process to ensure alignment with the established policies & procedures and in order to high performance standards.
  • Keeps an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects.
  • Develop and an implement plans for project teams and provide clear direction and ensure that staff knows what is expected to them.
  • Ensure the projects procedures, the required deliverables, the required standard of quality within the specified constraints of time and cost..
  • Maintain close relationship with local political leaders, member of the civil society, local Shujan members and others stakeholders of the project to ensure their support to achieve the project goal.
  • Liaison with donor as and when requires, represents the organisation and prepare monthly, quarterly and/or as per requirement of donor’s reports of the project.
  • Work closely with M&E Specialist to develop and implement M & E tools.
  • Continuously review information and learning from field visit in order to advise the Project Director for strengthen project management.
  • Develop clear guidelines, tools, capacity building modules to support project implementation.
  • Any other work required by Project management.

Educational Qualifications and Language Skills
  • Master’s Degree in Social Science or related disciplines with excellent academic result from reputed university.
  • Excellent command over in English both verbal and written is necessary.  

Other Qualifications and Experiences
  • A least 10 years experiences in the related field including 5 years in senior management position with responsibility of project proposal and report writing, resource mobilization, staff supervision and providing strategic leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Sound knowledge and clear understanding in political scenario and electoral process of Bangladesh, good governance, democracy, human rights and social issues.
  • Experiences of running big social projects independently or with minimum supervision.
  • Good connection with political parties, local political leaders, members of the civil society and social activists.
  • Clear knowledge on project management, project cycle and result based management.
  • Excellent team player and building relationship.
  • Exceptional transformative leadership skills for building leadership of others.
  • Sound knowledge of development concepts  specially local government and women’s empowerment.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft ward, Excels, Power points and presentation.
