The Hunger Project-Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP-Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income

Position Summary:


The Hunger Project mobilizes local “animators,” (trained volunteers), youths, women leaders, and local government representatives to achieve SDG in 185 selected unions. The Hunger Project also created and works with the various networks. Shujan (Citizens for Good Governance) is one of these networks, a platform of concern citizens, working for strengthening democracy, and promote good governance and human rights in Bangladesh.  This position is for Dhaka region to mobilise volunteers, youths, women leaders, elected representatives and members of the civil society effectively.

Responsibility of the Position:


This is a mid-level position and the principal responsibility of this position are:

  • Mobilise and motivate social activists, youths (students), grassroots women leaders
  • Organize and facilitate training, workshop and interactive sessions with the students, women leaders, local elected representatives, political leaders and CSOs’ actors for their capacity building
  • Develop effective reporting and documentation system
  • Keep close contact with Shujan’s district and upazila committees and provide necessary support to them 
  • Develop contents and regular update Shujan’s website with help of IT department
  • Arrange seminar, roundtable discussion, dialogue, meeting with relevant stakeholders  
  • Mobilize and empower elected representatives of Union Parishad to take action toward achieving SDG goals through local level planning and effective use of local resources
  • Support to carry out advocacy initiatives and maintain liaison with the relevant stakeholders, government officials
  • Support for formation/reformation of the committees of Shujan at different levels and tracking the committees with update database
  • Provide support for arranging Face to Face program of contesting candidates and voters
  • Educate and empower the voters through providing antecedents of the contesting candidates in the elections so that voters can elect their right representatives in the parliament as well as local administration
  • Prepare various monthly and quarterly report and news letters
  • Closely work with publication unit for printing and publication reports and news letters    
  • Maintain good relation with both electronic and print media

Qualifications, experiences and expertise


  • Master’s degree in economics, political science, public administration or any other related social science from reputed universities 
  • Practical experiences, knowledge and skills in social media campaign and website content development
  • English medium background or degree from foreign university will be given preference
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ work experiences in the related fields in an international/national NGOs
  • Sound knowledge in electoral system and political culture of Bangladesh
  • Sound knowledge and working experiences in the areas of democracy, local government, human rights, local and national administration
  • Good connection with political activists and members of the civil society both national and local level

Additional requirement

  • Age 30 to 40 years
  • Excellent in English speaking and writing skills is a prerequisite
  • Expert level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, Outlook
  • A socially active person having good networking skills
  • Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills
  • Sets high standards for quality of work and consistently achieve the targets
  • Ability to work effectively in groups and independently; demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems
  • Ability to effectively present different types of report for a diverse range of audience.
  • Good organizing and communication skills, relation building capacity with team and people of all sectors
  • Dedication, motivation, self-starter, ambition and commitment to the job as well as society
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline
  • Good experiences on advocacy and policy influencing work with shared learning and knowledge management
