Organization Profile

The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, strategic organization committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. The Hunger Project in Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP in Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.

In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income.


Position Profile and responsibilities

This is a Dhaka based mid-level management position. Major duties and responsibilities of the position are:

  • Write, compile, edit and produce high standard newsletters, articles, brochures, leaflets, annual reports, public awareness materials  and media releases etc. of the organisation on time both in English and Bangla.
  • Maintain and manage the contents of the organisation’s website ensuring contents are up to date and relevant to the organisation’s works and policies.
  • Provide support in developing and implementing communication strategies and materials of the organisation.
  • Provide technical training to the field staff in writing reports and success stories.
  • Allocate 25% time for field visit to collect success stories of grassroots people and arrange to publish the success stories in the National Dailies.
  • Initiate, lead, coordinate and manage all documentation activities
  • Develop appropriate documentation tools, technical links and contacts.
  • Help to implement the organizations communication, documentation and information strategies.
  • Maintain close liaison with media houses and journalists.
  • Ensure electronic database of all documents.
  • Perform other related tasks as and when required or as directed by the management.

Educational Qualifications and Language Skills
  • Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, English, Bangla or related disciplines with excellent academic result.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written is must.

Other Qualifications and Experiences
  • At least five years experience in editing and publishing at a uper-mid level and demonstrated ability in professional publications production under strict deadlines.
  • Strong ability to edit and write a wide range of materials for a diverse group of  audience with advanced knowledge of computerised editing and publishing software
  • Sound computer, layout, design and publishing skills, with relevant technical knowledge in production of technical documents and reports in print and electronic form.
  • Self-starter who can work effectively with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Experience in writing, editing and publishing articles on website.
  • Strong team-building, representational and diplomatic skills and building relationship
  • Skills in Microsoft words, excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good connection with print and electronic media.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Bangla and English
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multicultural environment.
