The Hunger Project-Bangladesh was founded in 1991 to foment a volunteer-based movement for overcoming hunger and poverty sustainably. THP-Bangladesh is currently the largest volunteer-based organization in the country, with over 150,000 volunteers working toward self-reliance.
In Africa, Asia and Latin America, The Hunger Project empowers millions of women and men to end their own hunger. The Hunger Project has pioneered low-cost, bottom-up, gender-focused strategies in each region where hunger persists. These strategies mobilize clusters of rural villages to create and run their own programs that achieve lasting progress in health, education, nutrition and family income

Position Profile:


The Hunger Project created and works with the various networks. SHUJAN (Citizens for Good Governance) is one of these network, a platform of concern citizens, working for strengthening democracy, and promote good governance and human rights in Bangladesh. SGUPAG-B (Self-governing Union Parishad Advocacy Group Bangladesh) of its another network is working for mobilizing and empowering elected representatives of local governments in order to strengthen local governance to accelerate the achievement of SDGs. This positing is mainly for supporting to run these two networks effectively.

Responsibility of the Position:
This is an upper mid-level position and the principal responsibility of this position are:

  • Provide day to day secretarial support and facilitate the networks created by The Hunger project, particularly  Citizen For Good Governance  (SHUJAN )and Self-Governing Union Parisad Advocacy Group Bangladesh (SGUPAG-B)
  • Plan and develop social media campaign materials and carry out the  campaigns to build public opinion for strengthening democracy, and promote good governance and human rights
  • Develop  contents and regular update SHUJAN websites with help of  IT department
  • Arrange seminar, roundtable discussion, dialogue, meeting with relevant stakeholders  
  • Organize and facilitate training, workshop and interactive sessions with the local elected representatives, political leaders and CSOs’ actors for their capacity building
  • Mobilize and empower elected representatives of Union Parishad to take action toward  achieving SDG goals through local level planning and effective use of resources
  • Support to carry out advocacy initiatives and maintain liaison with the relevant stakeholders, government officials, particularly Bangladesh Election Commission
  • Support  to formation/reformation the committees  of   SHUJAN and SGUPAG’s at different levels and tracking the committees with updating related database
  • Provide support to local level for arranging Face to Face program of contesting candidates in the election and voters
  • Educate and empower the voters through providing antecedents of the contesting candidates in the elections so that voters can elect their right representatives in the parliament as well as local administration
  • Develop and disseminate campaign materials, booklet and BCC materials etc 
  • Prepare various monthly and quarterly report and news letter
  • Closely work with publication unit for printing and publication reports and news letter     
  • Maintain good relation with both electronic and print media

Qualifications, experiences and expertise


  • Master’s degree in economics, political science, public administration or any other related social science from reputed universities (3rd class in any stage need not apply).
  • Practical experiences,  knowledge and skills  in social media campaign and  website content development
  • English medium background or degree from foreign university will be given  preference
  • Minimum   5-7 years  work experiences in the related fields  in an international/national NGOs
  • Sound knowledge in electoral  system and political culture of Bangladesh
  • Sound knowledge and working experiences  in the areas of  democracy, local government, human rights,  local and national administration
  • Good connection with political activists and members of the civil society both national and local level

Additional Requirements


  • Age 30 to 40 years
  • Excellent in English speaking and writing skills is a prerequisite
  • Expert level competency with Microsoft word, Excel, Power point, Outlook
  • A socially active person having good networking skills
  • Good analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills
  • Sets high standards for quality of work and consistently achieve the targets
  • Ability to work effectively in groups and independently; demonstrated initiative and creativity when solving problems
  • Ability to effectively present different types of report for a diverse range of audience.
  • Good organizing and communication skills, relation building capacity with team and people of all sectors
  • Dedication, motivation, self-starter, ambition and commitment to the job  as well as society
  • Challenge taker and meet the deadline
  • Good experiences on advocacy and policy influencing work with shared learning and knowledge management
