We are currently seeking a Senior Program and Research Analyst based in Dhaka for the Learning and Reflection Unit (LRU) of Helen Keller Intl. Bangladesh.

COUNTRY PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Starting in 1978 by promoting and implementing Nutrition programs, today, Helen Keller Bangladesh is implementing large scale food and health systems program work in Dhaka, Chittagong, the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), Sylhet, Sathkhira, Bogura, Pabna and Narayangonj through and with the government of Bangladesh, as well as national and international partners and NGOs, academic and research institutions, and the private sector.

Since its beginning, Helen Keller Bangladesh has worked with over 150 local, international and government partners to establish Enhanced Homestead Food Production (HFP) programs benefiting over 4.5 million people.  We are currently implementing programs to prevent blindness and Neglected Tropical Diseases alongside to programs to improve nutrition and food security that integrate gender-sensitive approaches.

SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The Senior Program and Research Analyst is responsible for designing and producing research learning that assess the effectiveness of projects and designing special studies that enhance the rigor and depth of HKI programming. S/he has primarily responsibility for conducting baseline and end-line surveys, analyzing data, preparing reports, organizing special surveys, providing training and supervisory support to data collection and data entry teams. S/he will be responsible for coordination of project M&E and research projects. This includes survey training/coordination, data analysis, documentation, and writing reports/journal articles based on datasets collected through Helen Keller Intl. Bangladesh.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and design:

  • Working with Project staff and the officers in the Learning and Reflection Unit, creating work-plans to meet data collection and analysis needs of HKI projects;
  • Ensuring that key indicators for food security and nutrition are standardized across projects;
  • Keeping abreast of key research in HKI’s topical areas
  • Organizing and storing all of HKI’s research studies, and facilitate knowledge-sharing within the organization by making data accessible to field teams;
  • Seeking out and following up on opportunities for special surveys that enhance the visibility of HKI’s research expertise.
  • Generating the sampling frame and selecting appropriate research methodology for baseline and endline surveys and special studies based on objectives of the research project;
  • Designing and documenting professionally written protocols for research surveys;
  • Designing and translating questionnaires, including questionnaire guidelines.

Data management and analysis:

  • Preparing syntax for data cleaning and analysis, creating systems through which data can be cleaned and managed efficiently;
  • Developing program/ syntax for checking data quality and performing quality assurance checks and providing quick feedback to the field;    
  • Identifying the ways to improve the data quality;
  • Archiving datasets;
  • Conducting analysis of HKI data and preparing reports, bulletins, and scientific articles under the direction of the Head of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research (HKI). This includes responsibilities to prepare abstracts for presentation to relevant conferences.

Field coordination and training:

  • Providing support to the designing and the training of relevant project staffs and data collection officers ont qualitative data collection methodologies and techniques;
  • Leading the designing and the training of relevant project staffs and data collection officers on quantitative data collection methodologies and techniques;
  • Conducting regular field supervision
  • Recruiting and manage teams of data collection officers and supervisors;;.

RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education and aptitude:

  • Master’s in Public Health, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or Statistics

Job-related experience and knowledge

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience or minimum three years of post-master’s relevant experience;
  • Prior experience with survey data (health and nutrition surveys, consumption surveys, and other large data sets) and/or administrative program data; Experience using statistical software packages, especially Stata;
  • Excellent spoken and written English Experience using MS Office;
  • Documented history of developing reports and journal manuscripts

Time required in job to reach effective performance:

  • Probation period – 3 months
