HELVETAS is an international organization, operating in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe in the domains of water & infrastructure, environment & climate change, rural economy, skill development & education, and governance & peace. In Bangladesh, HELVETAS supports the development of rural livelihoods and local governance through  direct support to agriculture and has demonstrated experience in improving access to drinking water as well as reduction of water induced risks, including flood, erosion, and salinity targeting the extreme poor and disadvantaged. HELVETAS, in partnership with ACTED, is launching an emergency operation to respond to the Rohingya Refugee Crisis and is working in particular the sector of Site Management (CCCM) in the Camps of the Kutupalong-Balukhali Expansion Site, Cox’s Bazar.  

HELVETAS seeks to recruit:

  • Forestry Assistant - 1 Person
  • Salary range between 51,000 to 54,000 BDT

Selection criteria

The main criteria used in the selection of the Forestry Assistant are the following:

  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) and Chittagong local language will be must
  • Previous experience working for NGOs in similar position
  • Previous experience in cash for worker management
  • Excellent liaison and communication skills
  • Experience in using MS Office is essential
  • Should have knowledge on humanitarian principals and attitude to work in Refugee Camps

Educational Qualification

  • BSC in Agricultural Science, Environmental Science or any relevant subject.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of field staff and cash for workers
  • Assessment and survey of the plantation sites
  • Care and maintenance of planted plants
  • Engage beneficiaries and train them with different plantation techniques and maintenance process
  • Monitoring of service provision by humanitarian partners at ground level
  • Timely report to the Forestry officer
  • Liaise and actively cooperate with donor in times of field visit  
  • Support and consider gender, protection, and GBV concerns in all aspects of activities
  • Support and promote participation of women, youth, and marginalized groups
  • Creation and follow up of weekly and long-term workplans for the project implementation
  • Provide inputs for the elaboration of Procurement plans as requested by line manager
  • Timely reporting on problems and challenges to line manager (e.g., activities implementation, urgent complaints and concern raised by the community)
  • Timely reports on security and safety incidents, including fire, landslides, floods etc to security focal and line manager
  • Manage plantation sites and take necessary steps for further development
  • Accurate record keeping of project documentation, including photos, as requested by the line manager
  • Ensuring compliance to internal procedures and donor procedures

The Forestry Assistant will report to and operate under the guidance of the Forestry Officer
