Construction Supervisor

Purpose:

The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all construction, repair, and maintenance activities at the field level, ensuring that work is carried out to a high standard and in line with technical specifications.

Main responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Implementation
    • Lead the planning, development, and implementation of all projects construction activities in Dhaka.
    • Ensure proper design, estimation, budgeting, and procurement of quality construction materials.
    • Oversee material receipt from vendors, distribution to homeowners, and ensure construction follows approved plans and designs.
  • Technical Documentation & Reporting
    • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), purchase requisitions, and annual construction plans.
    • Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Family & Site Selection
    • Select families and construction sites in alignment with HFH-B’s family and site selection guidelines.
    • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures throughout the- selection process.
  • Pre-Construction & Site Safety
    • Ensure all pre-construction activities and site safety measures are in place.
    • Train and coordinate skilled and unskilled laborers.
    • Provide construction orientation to homeowners to enable their participation in sweat equity activities, and supervise them accordingly.
  • Financial & Administrative Management
    • Maintain accurate records of construction activities and labor payments.
    • Ensure transparency and accountability in all field-level financial processes.
  • Quality Control & Monitoring
    • Maintain job cards, material delivery logs, final inspection checklists, sweat equity records, and other construction documentation.
    • Verify the quality of workmanship and ensure adherence to Habitat’s construction standards.
    • Work closely with homeowners to ensure cost-effective construction and continuous follow-up of site progress.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Verify and maintain all legal documents related to homeowners.
    • Ensure complete and accurate maintenance of homeowners’ personal files.
  • Community Engagement
    • Organize meetings with prospective homeowners to communicate Habitat’s mission, vision, selection criteria, construction methodology, and values.
  • Training & Capacity Building
    • Support the development of Appropriate Construction Technology (ACT) training manuals.
    • Provide ACT and housing construction training to community members.
  • Stakeholder Coordination
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with UDMCs, VDMCs, local leaders, community members, and partner/CBO organizations to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Reporting Support
    • Assist the Program Manager/ Technical Manager-Housing Solution in preparing periodic reports as required.
  • Research & Innovation
    • Initiate and conduct research on low-cost housing solutions and cost-effective construction methods.
  • Procurement Support
    • Support material procurement processes and contribute to updating the vendor list.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform any other duties assigned by management to support successful project implementation.

Requirements:

1. Education

  • Diploma in Engineering (Civil).

2. Experience

  • 3-4 years working experience in any construction work preferably experience working with urban/rural housing and sanitation sector in a development organization.
  • Strong communication skill in English is required.
  • Basic knowledge on house construction for low income people
  • Training on Appropriate Construction Technology and Construction related training will be advantage.    
  • Skill in MS office with construction designing software (AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of GIS system.
  • Maintain high morale with integrity and honesty.
  • Capacity to handle multi tasks & prioritize job responsibilities
  • Must have valid motorcycle driving license

3. Competency  

  • Expert on basic construction quality assurance
  • Handles conflict effectively, by overcoming differences of opinion and finding common ground. 
  • Experience in low-income community housing and sanitation projects.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Salary:

Negotiable based on competency of the selected candidate with all other regular benefits as per organizational policy.
