The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of Advisor- Energy Efficiency (Industry) from candidates under Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Development (EE4Dev) project.

A. Responsibilities
- Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
- Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
- Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
- Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.
- Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
- Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
- Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution
The position holder is responsible for the following tasks:
B. Tasks
- Provide policy and regulatory advice to government partners (e.g. Power Division, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) to promote energy efficiency measures in industry.
- Support government partners (Power Division, SREDA) in better enforcement of energy audit regulations and setting up of digital data management system.
- Design and implement capacity development measures for public and private sectors in energy conservation, energy audits in industrial sector.
- Prepare Terms of Reference, manage technical studies and contracts, and ensure quality assurance in project implementation.
- Provide technical advisory services to industrial companies on energy efficiency opportunities and implementation pathways.
- Support the implementation and quality assurance of industrial energy audits in accordance with national regulatory requirements.
- Engage with industry associations and sector stakeholders to promote energy management practices.
- Identify energy efficiency measures with high investment potential based on audit findings.
- Support collaboration with financial institutions to improve access to financing for energy efficiency investments.
- Provide analytical input with policy discussions on strengthening industrial energy efficiency regulations and compliance mechanisms.
- Support policy discussions related to industrial energy efficiency targets and their integration into national energy strategies and climate commitments.
C. Required qualifications, competencies and experience
Academic qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering with a focus on energy efficiency or energy management.
Professional experience
- 5 years of relevant professional experience in industrial energy efficiency, energy management, or industrial process optimization.
- Experience conducting or supervising industrial energy audits and developing investment grade energy audit reports.
- Experience in working with industrial companies or sector associations.
- Experience in international technical cooperation and international donors.
Other knowledge, additional competences
- Certification of energy auditor/manager is an asset.
- Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player.
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in English and Bangla is essential.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a multi-cultural environment.
