The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.

For the team of our “Transition to sustainable e-mobility (Trans2SMo)”, we seek applications for the position of “Energy Advisor”.

A. Project Background

The aim of the project titled “Transition to sustainable e-mobility (Trans2SMo)” is to promote innovative solutions for climate protection and energy efficiency in the transport sector, with a focus on optimising rapid, self-sustaining electrification.

Responsibilities

The position holder is responsible for the below tasks:

  • Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior
  • Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups
  • Advice supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation
  • Advice supervisor in the field of project's planning, steering and monitoring
  • Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager
  • Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit
  • Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution

In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:

B. Tasks (Specific for Job Role)

  • Supervise the development and implementation of project plans and activities, especially on electric Mobility (E-mobility), including preparation of work plans and required reports;
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with main political partner and implementing partners;
  • Provide expertise on the involvement of private sector, banks, investors in the area of e-mobility;
  • Assist the Project Manager/Coordinator in supervising strategic alignment of programme activities for the development of E-mobility sector;
  • Monitor operational budget against funds availability for the program components on e-mobility;
  • Develop ideas and concepts for new activities in line with programme objectives, outputs and indicators;
  • Identify needs for external support and advice; definition of terms of references, selection and supervision of contracted third parties including performance evaluation;
  • Plan and prepare workshops, seminars, and other events on subjects that are related to the project’s field of activities;
  • Coordinate with private sector entities and other relevant stakeholders to achieve programme objective;
  • Assist supervisor on all task when implementing GIZ rules and regulation;
  • Exchange of expertise, both regional and global as well as internal as external on the topics of e-mobility. 

C. Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Science/ Commerce;
  • Master’s degree in Business/ Finance/ Management is required.

Professional experience

  • 7 years of professional experience working in renewable energy sector;
  • 5 years of professional experience working with private companies, banks, MFIs in renewable energy sector;
  • 3 years professional experience in an international organisation would be an advantage;
  • In-depth understanding of developing bankable business plan, understanding investors requirements, start-ups ecosystem;

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English and Bangla, proficiency in German language will be an advantage;
  • Excellent command of MS-Office and other web-based applications/software tools;
  • Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication/IT systems;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player;
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in an intercultural environment.
