GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, textile and leather sector, biodiversity, as well as good governance, displacement, and migration. 

For the team of our “GIZ Office Dhaka”, we seek applications for the position of “Junior Accounting Specialist”.

Contract Duration: Initially for 1 year (possibility to extend further)

A. Responsibilities

Junior Accounting Specialist provides support in:

  • ensuring internal control planning, performing IC in projects, monitoring correction of findings and archiving the reports in line with GIZ guidelines
  • dealing with all questions from projects/ office arising in the areas of arranging, locating and facilitate payments
  • receiving the invoices from vendors / projects / CO reception desk
  • ensure archiving the files “B” “C” & “E” in accordance with the GIZ guidelines
  • effectively coordinating with the staff of the finance team at the projects and office
  • scanning of vouchers for archiving in cloud
  • deputizing the finance colleagues as needed

B. Tasks

Junior Accounting Specialist performs the following tasks:

1. Internal control

Junior Accounting Specialist is responsible to:

  • prepare Internal contral schedule, confirm with project and circulate the final version 
  • conducting the internal control of the projects according to the predefined schedule
  • ensuring the documentation of the audit evidence/s
  • follow up with the projects for obtaining the IC completion report
  • review the corrections of last year IC findings
  • prepare the IK statistics and send to HQ
  • support and cooperate for the internal and external audit of country office
  • update the colleagues of projects and office for any changes of PuR

2. Accounting and Financial services:

Junior Accounting Specialist is responsible to:

  • checking the invoices for compliance the guideline and signing the “Invoice check”
  • scanning of vouchers for archiving in cloud
  • archiving / labelling of contracts in “B” file, invoices / IC in “C” file, procurement of goods in “E” file and other relevant documents in line with GIZ financial and accounting guidelines
  • dealing with bank as needed
  • dealing with project for providing the feedback on queries

3. General services for GIZ-assisted projects/ programmes

Junior Accounting Specialist is responsible to:

  • collect / organize copy of invoices and treasury challans / mushok 6.3 from vendor/s for reimbursement of VAT from BD government
  • follow-up with the Govt. office for VAT reimbursement.
  • prepare the documentation to settle the VAT receivables

4. Other duties/ additional tasks

Junior Accounting Specialist is responsible to:

  • participates in projects and finance team meeting to understand needs and ensure smooth supports
  • Assist other finance colleagues
  • deputizing the finance colleagues as needed
  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of management

C. Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications & Professional experience

  • BBA with major in Finance or Accounting/ Bachelor’s in Commerce/ Finance/ Accounting with Completed the Chartered Accountancy Articleship (CACC)
  • 2 years working experience/s with development organization/(s)

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Proven record on conducting the audit of development odganizations
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, MS Excel, Power Point)
  • Excellent understanding on accounting and financial operations (bills & voucher checking, payment processing, planning)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent command of English and Bangla Languages
  • German language skills will be an added advantage
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
  • knowledge on accounting software (eg. Winpaccs, SAP) will be an added advantage
