The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development and international education work to shaping a future worth living around the world.

As a public-benefit Federal Government organisation, GIZ supports the German Government, particularly the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) implementing development projects. In Bangladesh, GIZ is implementing the technical cooperation projects in the areas of energy, climate change, textile, human rights under the bilateral agreement, signed on 15 July 1972 between the Bangladesh and German Governments.

GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of “Intern” from candidates who are attending a course of further study of which the completion of an internship is an integral component or have graduated no more than six months before commencing the internship.

Internship Duration: 6 Months (maximum)

Project/ Programme Background:

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is one of the priority areas of German Development Cooperation in Bangladesh. Energising Development (EnDev) is a global energy access program supported by the governments of Germany, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. Currently the program is operating in 20 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. In Bangladesh, EnDev has been implemented through GIZ since 2009 to provide access to clean cooking technology and solar energy for households and businesses, mainly in rural communities. In the past, EnDev had supported promotion and dissemination of biomass-based improved cook stoves (ICS), solar and small solar home systems, and solar lanterns (Pico PV’s).

In the current program phase (2021 – 2023), EnDev is continuing to support the provision of clean cooking as well as the productive use of solar energy. In collaboration with the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) of the Government of Bangladesh, the program currently focuses on development of the market for electric cooking (e-cooking) appliances, support for promotion of biomass-based ICS, as well as support for business case development for rural solar charging.

A. Responsibilities

As” Intern, EnDev”, the applicant will actively participate in monitoring and documenting Energising Development (EnDev) activities/interventions. The applicant will also be responsible for preparing project progress report and archiving background document.
 
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:

B. Tasks

  • Support EnDev team on implementation of the current program interventions, including communication with partner organizations.
  • Provide support to EnDev team for organizing events with stakeholders.
  • Review existing information on e-cooking appliances and biomass improved cookstoves market and activities.
  • Review and analysis of Studies and Policies related to clean cooking sector and e-mobility in Bangladesh.
  • Incorporate comments and changes recommended by EnDev team for all drafted documents.
  • Provide support in finalizing reports, publications and presentations for EnDev as required.

C. Required Entry Qualifications and Competencies

  • Currently enrolled or recent Graduates (maximum 6 months) from Engineering or Science discipline from reputed university at home or abroad.
  • Exposure to energy sector or Renewable Energy and/or Energy Efficient projects in Bangladesh will be added advantage.
  • Experience of writing proposals or reports for different clients.   

D. Further Knowledge / Skills

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural context, team work and meet strict deadlines

E. Language skills

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Bangla is a basic requirement

F. Learning Areas

  • The Intern will have the opportunity to learn in the areas of access to energy primarily on clean cooking solutions in the context of policy landscape, private sector participation and consumer awareness.
  • The Intern can learn stakeholder management especially with Government partners, private sector and civil societies.
  •  The Intern will get an opportunity to understand Carbon financing especially in the context of the Paris Agreement and Article 6 of the PA.
  • The Intern will also have the opportunity to contribute in drafting concept note and proposal for EnDev next programming cycle.
