Developing a 3-credit “e-Commerce” undergraduate course module
for Daffodil International University (DIU)
Context and Objective
In this age of Internet of Things (IoT), the classical business paradigm has shifted. At present,
among the top 10 brands are Google, Amazon and Microsoft, highlighting the fact that
online platforms and online markets are replacing the brick and mortal style of industries,
markets and shops. As such, it is equally important for students in undergraduate courses to
understand the business models and technicalities of IoT. Keeping that in mind, we want to
develop an introductory 3-credit e-commerce course guideline and content that will be used
at Daffodil International University (DIU).
The course is expected to provide students with:
- An understanding of the basic concepts, theories and business models underlying
ecommerce.
- How e-commerce theory and concepts are used by the e-marketers in the real world.
- Review the issues and challenges the e-commerce experienced in the Bangladesh
regulatory environment.
Keeping this objective in mind, the aim of this project is to:
- Develop a detailed curriculum for a 3-credit course to expose the students to the
business models in the age of IoT and e-Commerce, and give them an idea of new
concepts such as digital marketing, analytics, search engine optimization, platforms
and social media business models. The curriculum should cover both academic
knowledge paired with business world application.
- Create a Teaching Manual/Note for the curriculum, to use as guidelines for the
lecturers who will be taking the course.
- Training of lecturers of this course by the curriculum development consultant, to
ensure good quality and effective delivery.
The key deliverables under the project are:
- Inception Report.
- Literature Review of the existing e-Commerce courses in institutions and universities in
Bangladesh and abroad.
- Develop a 3-credit hour course content.
- Provide reference of teaching materials under each chapter.
- Teaching manual for lecturers.
- Provide additional reading materials for teachers, under their teaching manual.
- Training for Lecturers (2).
- Softcopies of all documents published, and unpublished data used as references.
Complete list of all individuals and their contact details (name, organization affiliation
name, email address, cell number).
- A final summary report on his experience in doing this project; constraints, lessons
learnt, ways forward, and what can be done in the future.
We are looking for potential candidates for the above scope of work who are in academic,
have both theoretical and practical knowledge on e-Commerce, and have some experience
in developing a University-level course module.
