A. Purpose:
The communication consultancy supports advocacy and media relations with a special focus on projects related to universal health coverage and immunization.
B. Background:
UN Agency works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. UN Agency has spent 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. Defending children's rights throughout their lives requires a global presence, aiming to produce results and understand their effects. UN Agency believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfil their potential – to the benefit of a better world. The UN Agency Bangladesh Communication Section provides significant support to donor-funded projects on universal health coverage and immunization. These targeted and time-defined project-related demands cannot be met with current staff capacity.
C. Objectives:
The communication consultancy supports advocacy and media relations with a special focus on projects related to universal health coverage and immunization.
D. Scope of work:
The consultancy supports advocacy and media relations with a special focus on projects related to universal health coverage and immunization. Under the general guidance and supervision of the Communication Specialist, the full-time Communication Consultant will contribute significantly to media relations, as well as writing, editing and/or coordinating communication content, such as stories, press releases, op eds, statements, media lines, speeches, advocacy materials, etc. The Communication Consultant will also contribute significantly to advocacy, including producing targeted advocacy packages and delivering advocacy campaigns. In addition, the Communication Consultant will contribute significantly to contract and networks management.
E. Description of Assignment and Deliverables
With a special focus on projects related to universal health coverage and immunization, the Communication Consultant will deliver the following media relations and advocacy products.
Media relations:
- Media relations products/packages, including press releases, statements, media advisories, key messages, reactive lines, Q&As, media networking, press management and support produced;
- Media monitoring-based analyses provided and/or media requests managed;
- HQ and regional communication requests managed.
Advocacy and Communication:
- Child advocacy activations supported (volunteers, child journalists, child parliamentarians);
- Parliamentary briefings (standing committees and/or caucus) supported;
- Publication ready assets, including human interest stories, speeches, reports and other content produced, and new ideas for communications content presented;
- Strategy for volunteer initiative revised with an accompanying implementation plan developed and executed.
F. Consultancy Costs:
- The Consultant will get BDT 175,000 per month; which includes a monthly remuneration of 21 working days of achieving deliverable
- The standard work arrangement will be office-based in the Communication section in UN Agency Bangladesh offices in Dhaka and according to UN Agency Bangladesh office hours. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and upon prior and mutual agreement between the Officer and the consultant, teleworking arrangements may also apply.
- For travel assignments outside Dhaka, applicable DSA at UN Agency standard rate and travel cost at actual in the invoice period.
- Due to the nature of their work the consultant will be provided with a laptop and UN Agency email ID.
- Consultant will be responsible to pay all taxes as per government rules and regulations. E-Zone will make statutory deductions towards income tax as per government rules and regulations.
G. Qualification requirement of the company/institution/organization
- Excellent English writing and editing skills.
- University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Administration or related field.
- Two years practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
- Field work experience.
- Background/familiarity with Emergency situations.
- Detail-oriented, creative, and able to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Experience with issues related to child rights.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Understanding and use of social media tools and platforms.
- Understanding and knowledge of UN Agency 's work is desired, experience working in the United Nations a plus.
