Communication Consultant

Reporting to: Communication Specialist (P3)

A. Objectives

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Communication Specialist, the full-time Communication Consultant will work in the Communication team to contribute significantly to the production of multi-media communication assets, including writing human interest stories, filming, editing, writing social media copy, adapting and producing or coordinating communication content. The Communication Consultant will also contribute significantly to the EU supported Instrument Contributing to Development and Peace by engaging adolescents participating in the programme to produce multi -media communication assets.

In addition, the Communication Consultant will work with the Communicate section at large, other programme sections, partners, and adolescents to produce communication content to support advocacy and resource mobilisation for the Rohingya Crisis.

C. Scope of work

The Communication Consultant will support social media and multimedia content development and management, including writing copy in Bangla and English. They will be required to craft posts with appropriate and striking visuals, support to update and manage a library of multimedia assets, generating photography and videography assignment briefs and scripts, putting together social media packs, generating social media analytics reports as required, planning around global and national moments, managing an editorial calendar, and work with contractors, partners, children and youth platforms, other Communication Section colleagues, and other programmes and field offices of the organization to produce communication products, as well as assist on any other requirements of the Communication Section of UN Agency in Bangladesh.

D. Deliverables and Schedule

1. Produce compelling multimedia content
(Photos, video, written stories) on the situation of children and families, and the impact of UN Agency programmes for multiple platforms including digital and printed materials.

2. Manage an editorial calendar for social media and track and follow up on requests for collaborations/campaigns with other sections.

  • Produce daily social media posts in flawless English and Bangla in social media friendly language
  • Edit photos and produce social media graphic assets and infographics using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Canva.

3. Liaise with programme and PMR teams to effectively track, plan, coordinate and execute all donor communication requirements including site branding, ensuring all deadlines are met.

4. Support donor visits with logistics and content production, including photography and video services, ensuring all material is submitted with detailed captions and information recorded and archived for any follow up needed.

5. Contribute to the production of a bimonthly newsletter highlighting programme achievements, events, etc.

6. Guide, manage and coordinate multimedia asset gathering assignments with freelance videographers, photographers, writer or other contractors and programmes sections, implementing partners, other Communication section colleagues, etc.

7. Work with the Communication, Child Protection and C4D teams on engaging adolescents participating in the EU supported story telling project to develop multimedia productions including human interest stories and videos.

E. Consultancy Costs

  • The consultants will get BDT 145,000 as a consolidated package which includes lumpsum travel cost in duty station, so consultant will not claim any travel cost in addition to this.
  • The standard work arrangement will be office-based in the Communication section in UN Agency Bangladesh offices in Cox’s Bazar and according to UN Agency Bangladesh office hours. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and upon prior and mutual agreement between the Consultant and the Communication Specialist, teleworking arrangements will also apply.
  • Delivery and attendance to be captured in a detailed monthly report. Payment will be made as on monthly basis on attendance and deliverables, upon presentation of an invoice detailing delivered services and days worked. In the case of travel assignments outside Cox’s Bazar, applicable DSA at UN Agency standard rate and travel cost at actual will be reimbursed.
  • Due to the nature of their work the consultant will be provided with a laptop and UN Agency email ID.
  • Stationery, communication and other office equipment costs will have to be borne by the Consultant;
  • Consultant will be responsible to pay all taxes as per government rules and regulations. E-Zone will make statutory deductions towards income tax as per government rules and regulations.

F. Profile Requirements & Qualification Skills

  • Flawless English and Bangla.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in social media, communication, digital marketing, copywriting/advertising or news media.
  • Degree in business/marketing, English, media, journalism, communications or relevant social sciences.
  • Proven experience in photography, filming and editing.
  • Knowledge of Drupal, ideally, or other website content management system desirable.
  • Open and quick to pick up new skills related to digital communications and multimedia
  • Hard-working, consistent, punctual and able to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in creative agency/news/development preferred.
  • Experience with issues related to child rights desirable.
  • Collaborative, supportive and a strong team player
  • Understanding of social media platforms, social media content production, analytics, and paid marketing strategy
  • Understanding and knowledge of UN Agency's work is desired, experience working in the United Nations a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Rohingya Crisis an added advantage.
  • Experience managing, orienting and contracting videographers, photographers, livestreaming agencies, writers, translators, etc.
  • Reachable throughout the days and weekends.
