A. Background

To efficiently and effectively drive results for children, adolescents and women, United Nations agency‘s has taken a strategic and integrated (print and digital) advocacy and communication approach to keep its target audiences including NatComs abreast of and engage with United Nations agency‘s  goals, work and progress in key priority issues.

This year, United Nations agency is producing audiovisual content with a number of national and international contractors for national, regional and global campaigns on climate change, Convention on the Rights of the Child, youth skills development and employability, newborn and maternal health, as well as a multimedia production on the history of the organization in the country. For delivery within tight regional, global and local deadlines, it has become essential to effectively support videographers in conducting background and field research, identifying cases, tracking and developing stories all over the country, and producing multi-language scripts.

The CAP section is dedicated to ensuring that the situation of children and communities in terms of key organizational priorities receive adequate coverage so that the world is compelled to act in support of United Nations agency‘s programmes for the affected. Given the large volume of work, short delivery times, and far-off filming/shooting locations, it is critical to be able to efficiently look for stories, assimilate the context, facilitate production, and provide logistic support to storywriters, videographers and photographers profiling the plight of children.

Digital Advocacy Approach:

Digital media, especially social platforms, are changing the ways people interact, giving rise to new and diverse audiences and empowering civil society in ways that have profound implications for United Nations agency‘s work – and for how communication and public advocacy are used to support that work. With nearly 6 million social media followers, to drive change for children, United Nations agency must fully develop its digital capacity – embracing a cultural change across the entire organization. United Nations agency‘s – at all levels – must target these people as emerging audiences and engage meaningfully with them across multiple digital platforms, moving away from disseminating information and moving towards having conversations. Digital content and engagement will reinforce United Nations agency‘s leadership as a credible voice for and with children.
