Job Context

ESDO was established in 1988 with the aim of supporting poor and marginalized people affected by the devastating flood and gradually moving towards achieving a broader vision of achieving sustainable, secured, and resilient livelihoods for these poor and marginalized people through improving their overall sustainable development. For the last more than three and a half decades of its development journey, ESDO has set an outstanding example of a sustainable development model for the underprivileged communities of Bangladesh. ESDO has been working in the country's primarily unserved and underserved locations, nurturing a community-focused participatory approach and people's ownership. Consequently, the ESDO's working area has already established an enabling environment. We have made notable achievements in livelihood improvement, food security and nutrition, education, women's empowerment, health, the promotion of children's rights, adolescent and youth engagement, and the rights of ethnic minorities. During this long span, we have adapted to the changing situation and provided the most time-bound effective services, especially to the poor and disadvantaged people. Considering the government's development policies, we are currently implementing a considerable number of projects and programs, including a microfinance program, through a community-focused and people-centered approach to accomplish the government's development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN as a whole. One of the most dynamic organizations, ESDO, is expanding its development interventions across in 4032 Unions, 162 Municipality, 422 Upazila under 56 districts & 7 City Corporation, 8 Division of Bangladesh, directly reaching more than 15 million poor and vulnerable people.

The Project Officer will support the effective implementation of the THRIVE project by ensuring planning, field-level coordination, community mobilization, monitoring, documentation, and timely reporting. The role requires strong engagement with vulnerable communities, particularly women and marginalized groups, to improve economic empowerment, equity, and climate resilience capacities. The Project Officer will work closely with the Project Coordinator and other team members to achieve the project’s objectives and ensure compliance with ESDO and HEKS/EPER standards.

During the selection process, female applicants will be given priority.

ESDO is inviting applications from interested qualified candidates for the following position.

Mandatory requirements criteria

  • Should have at least 7-10 years of working experience in any NGO or INGO within the development sector
  • Should have working experience at least 2-3 years as a Project or Unit Manager, including project/unit management and staff supervision
  • Experience in managing field-based development projects will be preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Proven ability to coordinate and liaise with government line departments and local stakeholders
  • Capacity to facilitate trainings, workshops, and community meetings
  • Experience in local-level advocacy and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of gender equity & inclusion.
  • Working knowledge of climate change, climate resilience, and adaptation approaches
  • Practical understanding of livelihood development and community-based economic initiatives, and community based learning/educating approaches
  • Understanding of rights-based approaches, including rights and entitlements of marginalized communities
  • Ability to prepare reports, case studies, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle with valid driving license (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and committed to community development.
  • Respectful toward diverse communities, especially women and vulnerable groups.
  • Honest, transparent, and aligned with ESDO’s mission, vision, and safeguarding policies.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to field locations and the project areas remote.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Implementation & Coordination

  • Support field-level implementation of all project activities following the work plan and donor guidelines.
  • Facilitate community mobilization, group formation, and strengthening of existing community-based organizations (CBOs).
  • Coordinate with local government institutions (LGIs), community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress and provide necessary support to beneficiaries.

Economic Empowerment & Livelihoods

  • Assist in implementing livelihood development interventions, including training, entrepreneurship support, value-chain activities, and market linkages.
  • Support beneficiaries to adopt improved income-generating activities (IGAs).
  • Facilitate capacity-building activities related to financial literacy, business development, and skills enhancement.

Climate Resilience & Equity

  • Promote climate-resilient practices, adaptive agriculture, disaster preparedness, and risk reduction activities.
  • Ensure social inclusion, gender equity, and rights-based approaches are integrated into all project interventions.
  • Support community advocacy initiatives on equity, resilience, and local resource mobilization.

Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Collect field data, success stories, case studies, and maintain proper documentation.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for ESDO and donor submission.
  • Ensure timely entry of monitoring data and maintain project databases.
  • Support monitoring & evaluation (M&E) processes, including assessments, surveys, and baseline/endline studies.
  • Strong report writing skills in English as well as need have to proficiency in MS Office application – particularly word, excel and power point.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Organize and facilitate training, workshops, awareness sessions, and community meetings.
  • Prepare training materials, session plans, and reports as needed.
  • Build the capacity of community volunteers, group leaders, and CBO members.

Finance & Compliance

  • Maintain activity-wise records, participant lists, and financial documentation related to field activities.
  • Ensure compliance with ESDO and HEKS/EPER financial, procurement, safeguarding, and accountability standards.

Salary: Tk. 44,572 (Monthly) (Forty-four thousand five hundred and seventy two taka only)
