Since 1995, Nutrition International has been working in Bangladesh to address the burden of malnutrition. As a trusted partner, Nutrition International supports the Government of Bangladesh to deliver various nutrition-related programs, including vitamin A supplementation, universal salt iodization, rice fortification, maternal nutrition, zinc and oral rehydration salts supplementation for diarrhea management, and adolescent nutrition. In addition to closely working with governments at every level, Nutrition International also works with local and international partners to deliver highquality interventions and programs that can create lasting impact and help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Through these terms of reference, we seek to hire a consultant to support the advocacy and communications goals of Nutrition International in Bangladesh and build the profile of nutrition and Nutrition International in the country.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The broad function of this position would be to enhance the visibility of Nutrition International’s programs and operations in Bangladesh. Working as an integral member of Nutrition International’s Bangladesh country office and the regional External Relations teams, the candidate will bring greater awareness, understanding and support for nutrition as well as Nutrition International’s programs and projects. This candidate will help improve the visibility of program effectiveness and coordination with external stakeholders in the country. The work of this position will be in line with the country strategy and seek to integrate communication activities into the organization’s overall programs in Bangladesh.

This consultant will be responsible for working with Nutrition International country office and regional office team as well as external vendors and agencies delivering the communication activities and products. The detailed duties and responsibilities are listed below.

  • In coordination with country program team, support in developing the advocacy strategy for Bangladesh.
  • Build, execute and monitor the communications plan for the year aligned to the country strategy with the aim of building the profile of Nutrition International in Bangladesh.
  • Create and coordinate the production of diverse external communications and outreach products including factsheets, project briefs, project presentations, case studies/success stories, policy briefs, press releases, advocacy papers, project reports, donor reports, etc. (including research, content curation, drafting, editing, layout, publication).
  • Lead on all external outreach for events in Bangladesh (concept note, key messaging, press releases, media pitches, event management, etc.) including planning and organizing events (with the support of a local event management agency).
  • Engage regularly with key media personnel to sensitize them about nutrition and Nutrition International’s work. Thereby, ensure broad media coverage and visibility on nutrition issues and Nutrition International.
  • Prepare press releases/press notes/media factsheets for engaging with media on different topics of nutrition
  • Capable of identifying story angles and key messaging/positioning for external communications to media, government, donors, industry, partners. Hire, manage and guide local communication agencies/vendors as required.
  • Create and maintain an editorial pipeline for Bangladesh content aligned with social media and events calendar.
  • Identify key opportunities and activities for posting on social media, draft social media posts and share with the regional external relations team for publishing.
  • Identify and prepare stories for the internal newsletter of Nutrition International.
  • Identify and develop human interest/impact stories highlighting case studies from the field about the impact of Nutrition International’s work.
  • Document key impacts of Nutrition International’s work through visual storytelling and documentation- photography/videography (managing an external photographer/videographer if needed).
  • Write, copyedit, proofread and finalize layout of program reports and publications.
  • Work closely with the Bangladesh country and divisional teams and Nutrition International Asia regional office to identify and create opportunities for external and internal communication to highlight the successes and achievements of Nutrition International in Bangladesh.
  • Assist Bangladesh Country Director in implementation of country-level advocacy and communications activities and building strategic relations with national networks on food and nutrition
  • Support with communications aspects of work needed for Nutrition International’s ongoing policy advocacy efforts to influence legislation and policies, planning and budgeting.
  • Coordinate with Nutrition International’s regional external relations team to ensure a smooth flow of information and decision-making on communication and outreach aspects.
  • Any other tasks within the scope of the role as directed by Country Director.

Educational Requirement / Experience Requirement:

  • At least 5-7 years of work experience in communications for development/humanitarian sector. Previous experience working with INGOs, and/or UN agencies on international programs in Bangladesh highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with health and nutrition-related programs.
  • Education in mass communication/ international development. Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Excellent writer and copyeditor (in English language).
  • Proven previous experience managing external communications agencies/consultants (photographers, videographers, press agencies, event management, designers, etc.).
  • Previous proven experience delivering high-quality communications products and reports/publications in (English language).
  • Good analytical skills and strategic storytelling skills.
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and project deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Good interpersonal communications, able to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Diplomatic team player able to work with a diverse multicultural team.
  • Flexible and agile. Able to problem-solve and adapt to the situation at hand accordingly.
  • Language skills required: Fluent in Bangla (oral); fluent in English (oral and written).

Compensation & Benefit:

Salary: Negotiable (Based on competency).
