Educo Bangladesh is looking for a “Livelihood Specialist”

We are a global development NGO with more than 25 years of experience that works for the interest of Children and in defense of their rights, especially the right to a quality education. Our institutional philosophy (Mission, Vision, Values and Principles) is firmly established on a commitment in pursuit of Children’s wellbeing. We have three strategic development goals, which center on the Right to Education, the Right to Protection, and Governance.

In Bangladesh, Educo currently has its geographical intervention in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Mymensingh and Moulvi Bazar. With its primary focus on quality education initiatives , organization also implements community-based activities in the areas of Health, Livelihood, Child Rights Governance and Protection. The organization is involved in different networks and alliances to promote child rights and Protection through advocacy and lobbying.

Educo Bangladesh aims to empower Children to express their views, ideas and opinions, and to exercise leadership. At the same time, Educo works with duty bearers, especially Parents and Local Government Institutions, to create an enabling environment for Children where they can influence the decisions that affect them.

Purpose

Livelihood Specialist will be responsible for overall technical support and mentoring the livelihood team of Educo to ensure systemic solutions that allow those who are poor and marginalized to earn a dignified living as well as explore and build their own solutions and take ownership over their future.

Engagement

S/he will initiate, develop and nurture cordial relations with relevant government bodies, partners, and the wider stakeholder and represent Educo at relevant events/forum to ensure Educo is acknowledged as a trustworthy partner/actor.

The Livelihood Specialist will provide technical advice on inclusive, sustainable economic opportunities of programming to increase the livelihood transition opportunities, AIG initiatives. This includes enhancing human capacity skills and opportunities for skills development and increasing employment and self-employment opportunities in target households and/or communities.

Planning & Budgeting

  • Prepare annual Project plan and budget in cost effective manner.
  • Develop a comprehensive annual plan and guide for timely execution (physical and financial).
  • Provide support to Resource Mobilization team in preparing concept note, budget and planning for the donors.
  • Develop and implementation of livelihoods assessment tools and approaches.
  • Ensure all livelihoods improvement strategies are gender-sensitive and promote women’s empowerment and gender equity in overall project goals.

Manage and Lead the Thematic Part Of Program

  • In consultation with team, assess current implementation protocol and identify the area to be improved.
  • Develop standards and systems for implementing livelihood approaches working with rural and urban communities
  • Develop livelihood promotion capacities within the program, partners, and community levels to protect livelihoods and achieve food security
  • Strengthen livelihoods promotion systems
  • Design and establish MIS system in collaboration with MEL team.
  • Develop tools to measure quality indicators of livelihood program.

Capacity Building of The Team

  • Introducing TNA system for livelihood staff and outline the competencies required for the project staff.
  • Develop annual training plan; basic and refreshers.

Capacity Building Other Relevant Stakeholders

  • Prepare strategies and interventions that promote the economic and social empowerment of women and youth to enable their full and responsible participation decision making 
  • Support the development of strategies and interventions for household income-generation and savings among targeted women and youth.
  • Responsible for developing youth employment and livelihood interventions and the technical aspects, including life skills training,  financial literacy,  alternative/additional income generation,

Market Development & AIG Development

  • Support the operation team to design the community level market base livelihood interventions, value chain development for the poor and AIG for the extreme poor.
  • Provide leadership to identify the potentials enterprise to engage and create new employments for the extreme poor women and men and possible market for the on-going product by linking the private sectors.

Documents Program Learning and Best Practices.

  • Document learning and best practice in association with team and communication team and disseminate those to the concern stakeholders.
  • Documents intervention wise case studies or other significant issues for next project preparation.

Communications

  • Maintain good relationship with Govt. Livestock, Agriculture, Youth development, Women and Children affairs department and other relevant Government agencies and pursue them to contribute.
  • Maintain good relationship with Union, Upzila and National level Government agencies.
  • Liaise with other NGOs, ensure good coordination of effort, avoid duplication, share lessons and for maximizing impact
  • Represent the organization by attending external meeting/seminar /workshop and uphold the organizational profile and image.

  • Introduce a reporting mechanism from field to country office.
  • Compile MIS data and prepare quarterly and annual report.
  • Prepare other reports as required by the organization.

Education

 An advanced degree in  business administration, agriculture is required, any advance degree from foreign university will be highly appreciable.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience International NGO. with professional background in food security, economic development, business management, marketing, resilience and livelihoods
  • Working experience successfully with government agencies and private organizations engaged in promoting improved livelihoods for households and youth employment, programs
  • Poverty reduction program, livelihood (related to on-farm, off-farm and self-employment),and Income generating activities,
  • Strong understanding of gender-aware and gender transformative programming preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local government,
  • Donor-funded development projects focused on livelihoods,
  • Partnership Management

Salary: Monthly BDT 90,000 (Ninety Thousand only), subject to deduction of Tax at source; based on salary history and experience.
Other Benefits: According to Organizational Human Resources Policy.
