Social Media Expert

Basic Information

Background

Democracy International is implementing the USAID Promoting Peace and Justice Activity, which works with legal aid delivery organizations, justice sector actors, and vulnerable groups to improve access to and delivery of services in Bangladesh. In turn, it will promote rule of law, increase confidence in public institutions, and counter violent extremism. It will do this through three interrelated components: 1) improve the delivery of legal aid in the formal justice system, 2) strengthen case management capacity of the judiciary and 3) raise citizen awareness of legal rights and responsibilities.  As part of this effort, the Activity frequently works with civil society to increase knowledge of citizens legal rights and responsibilities, particularly with vulnerable groups. 

Position Summary

Democracy International seeks to hire a consultant to serve as a Social Media Expert by provide training & mentorship support to civil society for using the social media and related activities to reach target groups about their legal rights and responsibilities.  This may include NGOs, law schools, and other groups working to improve the lives of vulnerable groups in Bangladesh.  The Social Media Expert will be responsible for developing training/workshop related materials, facilitating trainings, and providing mentorship support to organizations working to increase their social media presence to promote legal rights education. Travel within Bangladesh will be required.

Essential Duties

• Arranging all technical aspects of the utilizing social media platform for Awareness Campaign training, including tailoring the training materials to the participants and delivering the trainings.  The Activity will provide logistics support, such as venue and audio-visual equipment when needed.

Deliverables

• A lesson plan for each training, outlining of the training objectives, the specific learning activities, a means for assessing knowledge of the participants, and a realistic timeline.  This is to be approved by the Activity prior of the training.
• Certification of leading the training as per the lesson plan.

Qualifications

• Master’s in social science or relevant education degree
• Experience on developing and facilitating relevant training and materials related to social media
• Knowledge of legal rights and responsibilities
• Experience working with civil society organizations
• Fluency in English and Bangla                                                                                      

Reporting

This position reports to Advocacy and Outreach Component Lead.  All deliverables must be approved by the Chief of Party.

Level of Effort

It is expected that the Social Media Expert will work no more than 15 days on this assignment for a 6-month period following the signing of the contract.  Upon successful completion of this contract, the Expert will only be compensated for days agreed in writing by the Activity, and will be paid on a monthly basis against a timesheet.  If travel is required by the Activity will bear the travel expenses in accordance with its official policy
