TERMS OF REFERENCE

Organisation:  Centre for Research and Information (CRI)
Position: Deputy Director,
Reporting to – Executive Director 

Requirements:

The prescribed requirements for the position –Deputy Director are determined under the premise of the following: The nature of work of Centre for Research and Information (CRI) has specific purpose where the members of the boards provide strategic directions voluntarily and oversee the activities in line with the mission, vision and primary objectives of Centre for Research and Information (CRI). Management of CRI is required to excel through self-management. An empowering culture is rooted in the organizational management so that the staff can operate and demonstrate their excellence and commitment through constant feedback, innovation and creativity. CRI follows programmatic focus along with flat and matrix management for the impact of its work to be aligned with its vision.

Requirements for the position – Deputy Director are:

  • Post graduate (from any reputed university) in Economics/Development Studies/Business Studies/Sociology/Communication Studies or any other area relevant to public policy analysis.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in team management.
  • Requires excellent writing skills, both in English and Bangla.
  • Requires excellent communication skills across all socioeconomic levels.
  • Familiarity with research, survey and methodology.
  • High level of computer literacy in research and graphical presentations including proven computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge on both team and project/program development and management.
  • Ability to promote organizational learning and knowledge sharing mechanisms within the team.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Ability to manage conflict and stress.
  • Proven ability to multitask and skills to schedule activities to ensure optimum use of time and resources; monitor performance against individual development and correct deviations in due courses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Strong motivation to acquire new and relevant professional skills.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in area of professional discipline and job knowledge.

 

Working Areas

  • Lead the programmatic teams of CRI and act as the chief coordinator of the senior management team (SMT)
  • Develop one year program planning, management and budgeting of the organization with the help of other members of the senior management team and under the guidance of Executive Director monitor expenses and effectiveness of the programs accordingly
  • Coordinate/ liaison necessary partnerships for planned programs in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Responsible for day to day management of all programs of CRI’s different departments, teams and secretariats
  • Conduct constant and annual performance evaluation of the all staff working in program
  • Ad hoc assignments instructed by the Executive Director and by the members of the board of trustees

Tasks/Assignments as per working areas
 

  • Lead the programmatic teams of CRI and act as the chief coordinator of the senior management team
  • Provide for all staff a strong day-to-day leadership and stewardship by being actively involved in all programs and services
  • Monitor the execution of CRI’s visions and plans at the department and team levels
  • Provide guidance and support for all staff and monitor the department and program work and progress
  • Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on program operations
  • Hold weekly meetings with the ED to provide updates on operational issues, projects, programs, budgets and expenses
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports with senior management team on overall work and progress and challenges
  • Develop one year program planning, management and budgeting of the organization with the help of other members of the senior management team and under the guidance of Executive Director monitor expenses and effectiveness of the programs accordingly
  • Prepare program plans and budgets with program management for board presentation and approval, through Executive Director
  • Assist the program team to prepare individual program budget with input from program partner organizations and relevant colleagues
  • Ensure timely reporting to stakeholders of program activities including expenses if needed
  • Ensure that all programmatic partners renew their contracts
  • Provide quarterly report based on progress of approved programs and budget
  • Coordinate/ liaison necessary partnerships for planned programs in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Coordinate/communicate and secure the necessary relevant partners for the programs following guidelines would enable CRI to materialize the planned programs, campaigns and advocacy:
    • Technical partnership: to provide technical/research support/assistance for a program/activity
    • Implementing partnership: to carry out the implementation of a program/activity
    • Funding/Sponsor partnership: to provide funding for a program/activity
    • Strategic partnership: to provide guidance and supervision at the level of impact
    • Beneficiaries: The group of people receiving the benefit of a program/activity
  • Act as a key liaison with external stakeholders and partner organizations and sending and receiving information
  • Collating and producing reports and information in order to showcase CRI’s work to stakeholders, donors and partners as required
  • Partner with the member of the board of trustee and Executive Director to represent CRI with external stakeholders, including community, governmental, and private organizations.
  • Responsible for day to day management of all programs of CRI’s different departments, teams and secretariats
  • Manage and supervise to enhance the quality of dissemination of programmatic news at social media and online outlets of the organization
  • Guide the senior management team members to evaluate effective use of time by their team members
  • Maintain key point of contact for staff and support an open-door policy among all staff.
  • Conduct constant and annual performance evaluation of all staff with the help of senior management team
  • Ad hoc assignments instructed by the Executive Director and by the members of the board of trustees

Remuneration, Benefits & Other Information:

  • Salary:  Negotiable
  • Probation period: Three months
  • Other benefits: As per HR policy
  • Office hours: As per HR policy
  • Workstation: Dhaka and occasional travel
