Works closely together with: Project staff, Finance manager at country office 

Introduction   The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has selected a CARE Bangladesh led consortium to implement the project titled ‘Nature Based Adaptation towards Prosperous and Adept Lives & Livelihoods in Bangladesh (NABAPALLAB/ নবপল্লব)’ in two Ecologically Critical Areas (ECA) – Sundarbans and Hakaluki Haor. The other consortium members are CNRS, Cordaid, C3ER-BRAC University, Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), Friendship, Humanity & Inclusion (HI), iDE, and Practical Action.

FCDO’s NABAPALLAB aims to engage biodiversity and natural resource-dependent communities to strengthen the climate resilience of the ECAs, conserve biodiversity, and at the same time, diversify and improve people's livelihood through innovative nature-based (NBS) and locally led adaptation solutions in the districts of Bagerhat, Satkhira and Khulna in the Sundarbans ECA, and Maulvibazar and Sylhet in Hakaluki Haor.


Cordaid (www.cordiad.org) is a Netherlands based INGO working in Bangladesh since 1972 and throughout the years, Cordaid promoted a climate smart food system for vulnerable communities in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh. In the NABAPALLAB project, Cordaid will provide technical and innovation support for saline tolerant agriculture for all consortium members specifically in the districts of Bagerhat, Satkhira and Khulna in the Sundarbans ECA areas.

Results and Competences

Result area Description
(Improved) program/project budgets

Prepares, coordinates and monitors the project budget. Contributes to growth and diversification of revenue by assisting in budget management of the project during implementation. Maintains banking relations.

Project participation Under the functional supervision of the project leader and when in absence of dedicated project controller, participates in project team. Shares and contributes financial expertise and advises the project leader on financial content matter in relation to the project.
Controlled budgets Coordinates all financial transactions using the correct financial system and cost center. Checks the cash forecast, cash payments, cash advance and cash reimbursements. Assess utilized project funds and reimbursement from country office.
Administrative order

Establishes and maintains sound financial management systems and provide administration support. Perform and check monthly bank reconciliations and closing statements. Preparing, filing and tracking of financial documents for incoming and outgoing correspondence and records.

Procurement Oversees all inventories, ensures all procurement requests are prioritized and items are procured in a timely manner for the project. Plans and monitors budgets. Maintains a system to locate all goods of the project.
Admin Management  Facility tidiness of the office and regular maintenance. Organize systematic induction to all staff and visitors as appropriate on administrative requirements. Facilitate all travel arrangement support to visitors. Ensurew work place safety and security administer the office operational services: utilities, service providers etc.
Compliance Ensures that accounting principles, standards and all transactions are in line with donor requirements, government and legal regulations. Maintain knowledge or required rules and regulations related to project and activities that affect the budget. Ensure Vat,Tax and NGOAB requirement. Assist both the internal and external audit process as required.
Financial reports

Prepares and compiles financial documentation, supporting financial settlements and assists in the preparation of financial statements and reports. Prepare project and donor financial reports.

Internal operations Interprets financial reports and expenditure analysis to (project and financial) staff and management.
Integrity Adheres to the Code of Conduct and integrity policies, reports concern and follows regular integrity trainings.
Other Any other duties assigned by the manager

Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences

  • Post Graduate degree in related field. Chartered Accountancy course completed will be an advantage;
  • At least 3-5 years progressive experience and exposure in NGO/INGO
  • Knowledge of finance systems, planning & control, (computerized) accounting, (compliance) legislation, reporting standards and languages;
  • Knowledge of the mission and goals of the Cordaid program and the security policy;
  • Behavioral values and skills: accountability, sustainability, respect, diversity & inclusion, flexibility, creativity, collaboration;
  • Social skills to ensure compliance and gather reliable information from budget holders and lead local staff
  • Writing skills to formulate financial reports
  • Good English and Bangla knowledge, written and spoken.
