Job Opportunity in Cox’s Bazar

COAST Trust (www.coastbd.net) is a value based independent, non-profit and non-government organization (NGO), awarded special consultative status with UN Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), has been working in the coastal area of Bangladesh for the development of survival strategies for coastal poor since 1998. It believes in integration of right based approach in micro finance, striving for people centered sustainable development initiatives, maintaining a level of transparency, participation, accountability, gender sensitivity and respects to human rights principles in management. Currently COAST is implementing a project in Cox’s Bazar funded by Fondation Hirondelle, Switzerland. Eligible candidates are sought for the following positions:

1. Production Manager

Overall mission: The Production Manager’s main duty is to coordinate and implement all the production elements that are necessary to achieve the objectives set out in the approved project. S/he works in close coordination with the Head of Project, other Production staff, and the Project Coordinator. The Production Manager, the Head of Project and the Project Coordinator are jointly responsible for the completion of the project’s objectives.

Reporting relationship: The Production Manager has operational responsibility over all staff and volunteers producing audio content. S/he shares operational responsibility with the in-country Head of Project. S/he works under the hierarchical responsibility of the Head of Project in Bangladesh.

Main objectives and tasks:

Initial assessment of needs:

  • The Production Manager will assess the context in the Rohingya camps and host community and the respective information/communication needs and ensure that the proposed project intervention responds to these needs.
  • Discuss with camp management, NGOs, and other organisations providing information / communication in the camps.
  • Discuss with refugees and host community to analyse current context and identify needs.
  • Make recommendations for any necessary changes to the proposed project and activities.

Ensure the training of the volunteer producers and other volunteers working on the project

  • Support the Production Consultant in delivering training to the volunteer producers.
  • Ensure initial and on-going training and support of volunteers.

Production and broadcast

  • Definition of the audio program format and content.
  • Oversee production of the audio program produced by volunteer producers.
  • Oversee the production schedule and work of all participants; assign topics and reports, choose themes and topics to be covered.
  • Draft story briefs, edit audio and give feedback to Editors
  • The Production Manager is responsible for the editorial quality of all productions and ensure they are in line with the given editorial standards.
  • Oversee expenses and budget management related to content production. 
  • Liaison with camp management, partners, and NGOs on producing messaging and content on different themes. 
  • Be aware of approved messages from Sector Working Groups (e.g. Wash, Protection) and integrate those messages into programme content where relevant and appropriate.

Other

  • Contribute to operational reports to HQ and donors.
  • Contribute to the final project document highlighting lessons learned from the project and providing recommendations.

Salary: BDT 79,000/- (Consolidated)
 
2. Production Assistant

Mission: The Production Assistant provides editorial and production support to the project of making short audio programmes with volunteers from the Rohingya and Bangladeshi communities to provide information that can help people.
The Production Assistant works with community producers to research topics for radio programmes, record and edit audio as required. S/he ensures that the editorial policies and guidelines of the project are respected and reports any editorial problems to the Production Manager. S/he contributes to the weekly work plan and production schedule for the community producers.

Reporting Relationship: S/he will be reportable to Production Manager

Main activities:  

Production and Broadcasting

  • Support the Production Manager in identifying and generating ideas for daily productions
  • Research program topics using reports, data and online sources
  • Conduct audio interviews
  • Negotiate interview times with sources from NGO, UN and government
  • Contribute to the finalization of the daily production schedule
  • Contribute to distributing assignments to community producers
  • Ensure that the community producers carry out the tasks assigned to them
  • Participate in writing and editing the audio program, as required

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working with audio editing software (such as Audition, Audacity or similar)
  • Experience working in radio/audio production
  • Experience with community-led development projects
  • Knowledge of issues facing Rohingya in Bangladesh
  • Self-starter, motivated, good organizational skills

Language: Candidates MUST understand and speak in Rohingya or local Cox’s Bazar dialect; English reading and writing is also required.

Salary: BDT 37,000/- (Consolidated)

3. Project Assistant

Mission: The project assistant provides administrative, logistics and programme development support to the project. S/he leads on managing the transportation schedule for the project. S/he supports the project through administration and logistical tasks including simple procurements.  S/he contributes to updating the sector mapping monthly and other reporting.

Reporting Relationship: S/he will be reportable to the Project Coordinator

Main activities:  

Administrative

  • Updates weekly workplan and schedules as needed
  • Manages daily transport schedule for vehicles and staff needs
  • Collates data and submits monthly 4W report on activities
  • Undertakes purchases and assists with project activities as needed
  • Contributes to reports and other presentations
  • Supports with all logistics, procurement and transport arrangements

Requirements

  • Relevant degree preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Experience with community-led development projects; preferably in Cox’s Bazar
  • Self starter, motivated, good organizational skills
  • Good communication skills and positive team member

Language: English spoken and written language is required. Rohingya or local Cox’s Bazar dialect is required (Rohingya preferred);

Other: Having motorcycle license is preferred.

Salary: BDT 37,000/- (Consolidated)

4. Translator: Rohingya/ Chattogram to English

Mission: The Translator provides written translation services to the project. S/he listens to audio programmes produced in Rohingya and local language and provides a written translation into English, ensuring accuracy and professionalism in the translation. S/he reports any language problems to the Production Manager. S/he is able to work quickly and efficiently in developing written translations and advising on correct use of language in both Rohingya/ Local language and English.

Reporting Relationship: S/he will be reportable to Production Manager

Main activities:  

Production Translation

  • Translate finished audio programs from Rohingya &/or local language into English using MSWord.
  • Produce a high quality translation script for review.
  • Make adjustments as requested
  • Translate training documents as needed

Monitoring and evaluation

  • Participate in translating survey information and other information from English into Rohingya, Chittagonian or Bangla.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working as a translator, with strong references
  • Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite of software
  • High level language fluency in reading and writing in Rohingya, Chittagonian, Bangla and English
  • Experience with community-led development projects
  • Knowledge of issues facing Rohingya in Bangladesh
  • Can work alone; motivated, good organizational skills
  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in English, Social Sciences or relevant degree.

Language: Both Rohingya and local Cox’s Bazar dialect is required; Bangla and English fluency is also required.

Salary: BDT 45,000/- (Consolidated)
