Young Water Leader Fellowship
BACKGROUND
Transboundary Rivers of South Asia (TROSA) programme has been initiated in 2017, with support of the Government of Sweden. Bangladesh component of the programme has been named ‘Transboundary Rivers for Our Sustainable Advancement’ with the goal of reducing poverty of river basin communities through increased access to, and control over, riverine water resources. The project works for the river governance related issues specifically – i) Erosion Control, ii) Fisheries Management, iii) Sand Mining and iv) Inland Water Transport. The part of the project is implementing through two local NGOs in Bangladesh and this offer will be covered by the local partners’ budget.
SCOPE OF THE WORK
In this context, TROSA has been planning to contribute to the process of amplifying the talent of future researchers in evidence based inclusive advocacy system to build the value-based leadership essential for their life and society for the better by introducing an opportunity named “Young Water Leader Fellowship”. Under this fellowship, seven (7) individuals from the universities all over the Bangladesh will be selected to enable them to tackle ambitious and challenging research and innovation in one of the following topics as an early career experience.
- River fisheries
- Sand mining
- Inland Water Transport
- River erosion
- River pollution
- Irrigation and Renewable energy
- River biodiversity
OUTCOME
The ultimate expected outcome of this fellowship is a complete research report or advocacy plan developed from the scratch addressing inclusive participation of Government, private sector, CSO and community representatives with proper gender and young leadership balance in government policies and practices in trans-boundary water governance management.

BENEFITS
The fellowship is worth BDT 100,000/- (including field visit and based on submitted budget) to support young researchers conducting research on their desired topics. The fellows will work under close supervision of project staffs throughout the process. Also, the successful research outcome will be encouraged and guided to publish in any reputed journal.
ELIGIBILITY
- Either studying in or has completed bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to river, rights and resilience
- Some background in natural resource related activism or research is desired
- Able to dedicate 2-3 months (full tenure of the assignment) from September 2020
- Excellent interpersonal skills,
- Good command over written English
- Experience of arranging/leading arrangement of workshops, trainings or similar events;
- Experience in outreach communication and report writing;
- motivated, ability to meet deadline.
- Experience in research activities
- Experience or engagement with environmental activism
Duration: 2 months
Budget: The total amount of stipend for the project will be maximum 100,000 BDT
Location: Rowmari, Kurigram/Chandpur/Dhaka (depends on the submitted proposal)

Fellowships are a good way of innovation and leadership in learning different new things. This specific fellowship will allow the candidate to dedicate quality time to contribute in the natural resource field. Along with leading to a practical innovation in research, it will expose the personnel to step forward towards his/her career journey which will help them to get experience in starting their early career. The fellows who choose to work on policy advocacy plan will also have a very interesting opportunity to work on the real time advocacy influencing plan. This opportunity will open a chance of introduction to a wider internal network of staff and external community of practice in the area of their chosen innovation.
