Research Assistant / Associate-Gender and Social Inclusion (Locally Recruited Staff)

The posting place: The position is based at CIMMYT’s office in Dhaka, Bangladesh, will report to Gender Specialist at CIMMYT India/headquarter.

Specific duties of this position include:

Research Assistant/Associate-Gender and Social Inclusion will support work on the sustainable intensification of the mixed farming system by unravelling women’s participation and agency in the mixed farming system and contribute to the project on selected value chains of the rice based mixed farming system and package of options that are tailored to the local specific contexts, leading to equitable and sustainable intensification of smallholder farming systems.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support CIMMYTs Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and supervision of field research on gender dynamics in the sustainable intensification of mixed farming system in Bangladesh.
    • By coordinating field activities, data collection, establish partnerships with farmers, private sector, and NARS agencies
  • Carry out high level analysis of qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate computer software.
  • Undertake literature searches and reviews related to gender and social equity in sustainable intensification, mixed farming system, and agriculture and rural development in general.
  • Provide support in data and information management related to the research activities carried out as part of the project.
  • Assist with work planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting, as required.
  • Gather and manage information and prepare background briefs and communication products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

A. Education and Knowledge

  • Masters’ Degree in Science OR Technical, vocational, or professional qualification requiring 4 or more years’ study (for non-research positions)
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant administrative and/or operating protocols and policies of the function
  • Specialized knowledge limited to small field of expertise
  • Basic managerial competence

OR

  • PhD degree (for science positions) OR Master’s Degree plus 5 years’ experience for non-Science
  • High level of managerial competence
  • Comprehensive and sufficient knowledge of few fields or proficiency to have the highest level of expertise in one discipline within CIMMYT to solve all problems in the specialist field
  • Role requires incumbent to apply broad knowledge of other disciplines with only occasional recourse to specialist support
  • High level of level of leadership and managerial skills
  • Expert knowledge of policies and administrative/ operating protocols

B. Work Experience

  • 1 to 3 years - Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a discipline

  • 4 to 5 years - Requires good knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a discipline

  • Complex use of Simple systems
