Caritas Bangladesh (CB) is a national and non-profit development organization operating in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1967 as the eastern branch of Caritas Pakistan and became a national organization in 1971 known as CORR (Christian Organization for Relief and Rehabilitation). The name Caritas was re-introduced in 1976. It has a Central Office in Dhaka and eight Regional Offices in Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Dinajpur, Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Sylhet. CB is implementing 93 projects covering 239 upazila focusing on eight goals i.e. i) Social Welfare and Service of Love for Vulnerable Communities; 2) Ecological Conservation, Climate Justice and Sustainable Food System; 3) Humanitarian Response and Disaster Management; 4) Education, Skill Development and Employment Creation; 5) Health Care, Nutrition and Education; 6) Development of Indigenous Peoples; 7) Integral Human Development; and 8) Institutional Development and Sustainability.

It has more than 3,200 staff and 20,800 volunteers to operate more than 93 projects at 239 sub-districts of 53 districts in Bangladesh. In last 53 years, CB has so far responded to a total of 16 types of 120 disaster events. Through emergency relief, recovery and rehabilitation programs, CB has so far reached to disaster-affected 46.47 million people of 10.33 million HHs across the country through the implementation of 129 emergency relief, recovery and rehabilitation projects.
CB is currently implementing emergency humanitarian response, recovery, anticipatory actions and DRR projects across the country including Emergency Response Project for Forcibly Displace Myanmar National and Host Communities in Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh.

In order to ensure quality implementation of project activities with effective protection support to women, girls, adolescents and other vulnerable groups at camps and host communities, Caritas Bangladesh in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar is looking to is looking for suitable candidate for immediate appointment as well as to prepare panel list.

Educational Qualification
Master’s degree in Science with the preferable disciplines of Clinical or counseling psychology, Psychiatry from any recognized universities in Bangladesh or from abroad.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements

  • Psychologist with a minimum of 5 (five) years of experience working on MHPSS programs, preferably in humanitarian settings.
  • Sound knowledge and experience on implementing IASC MHPSS guidelines in emergency settings, and supervision experience including IG, HIG and operational manual
  • Has experience in providing supervision to psychologists.
  • Training experience in Psychological First Aid and basic psychosocial skills. Experience with expressive/creative therapies a plus.
  • Capacity building/curriculum development experience in community based MHPSS approach
  • Fluency in English. Speaking and understanding chittagonian district language will be an advantage.
  • Management, training and supervision required
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within different cultural environments
  • Ability to work within a team structure or in isolation, flexible, and can cope with stressful workloads and working with limited resources
  • Proactive and communicate strategically under pressure
  • Experience in mental health and protection work with displaced people, refugees, returnees and migrants.
  • Excellent command of the use of Microsoft Office especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy and mechanisms to integrate MHPSS (in line with international standards and IASC guidelines) into all aspects of Caritas’ protection programing in emergency context.
  • Provide clinical supervision to frontline protection staff, including GBV, PSS and CP caseworkers, facilitators and community mobilisers/volunteers.
  • Provide mental health and psychosocial support as needed to affected populations (precise programming contingent upon identified needs, existing services and capacities as well as activities of other agencies);
  • Provide technical support on MHPPS integration into different sectors in line with minimum standards for multi-sectoral response in emergency context.
  • Identify psychological, emotional or behavioral issues and train mental health officers, caseworkers, facilitators and staff/ volunteers in community outreach, mental health case management, follow-up and mental health promotion.
  • rain staff and volunteers involved in PSS activities on key concepts of MHPSS, including Psychological First Aid (PFA);
  • Conduct regular supervision sessions with staff and volunteers to coach on knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct self-care sessions with trained staff and volunteers after cascading series of activities in the community to help prevent/manage secondary stress.
  • Identify and update referral pathways for MHPSS interventions; carry out regular service mapping in camps and refer cases to psychological/psychiatric service providers, where appropriate.
  • Review and develop relevant training and outreach materials on MHPSS and adjust according to community feedback and recommendations.
  • Contribute in the design of assessments and psychometrics tools and supervise their administration;
  • Assist field team in rolling out MHPSS Monitoring & Evaluation tools;
  • Represent Caritas Bangladesh at sub-sector meetings, relevant forum working group identify opportunities for collaboration and coordination with relevant sub-sectors, NGOs and stakeholders.
  • Conduct regularly field visits, advise and supervise the sessions/counselling and organize regular staff meetings in field locations.
  • Prepare and share periodic report, according to the project document (monthly reports, quarterly reports, sector report, working group report, donor reports, final report);
  • Develop a detailed monthly action plan for the main activities to be conducted.
  • Support the development of referral pathways to strengthen links to available services for MHPSS.
  • Lead the development of appropriate IEC materials on MHPSS, to build awareness of services and promote key messages.
  • Support in adapting programming to changing context, and evolving MHPSS needs of community members.
  • Take responsibility for collection and reporting of mental health data including MIS reporting and beneficiaries’ outcomes (e.g. functioning scale, client satisfaction surveys). Support project staff to maintain program records and documentation as per project management minimum standards, including maintaining the confidentiality and security of MHPSS client data.
  • Promote the culture of learning and documentation so that lessons learned, and good practices are documented and shared for institutional memory and learning as well as to advocate on behalf of the communities with which we work.
  • Support the development of mental health and psychosocial monitoring and evaluation tools and related activities for improving performance.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all trainings, completion and analysis of pre and post knowledge tests and on the job supervision checklists as well as mental health integration checklists. Sharing copies with MHPSS team data management, M&E, and reporting.
