Job Title: Junior Architect (H&C) Reports to: Coordinator- Homes and Communities through Program Officer (Shelter & Settlements of H&C)

Caritas Bangladesh is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Junior Architect for the Homes and Communities  Strategic Change Platform of Caritas Bangladesh. Caritas Bangladesh (CB) is a national and non-profit development organization operating in Bangladesh since 1967. It has its Central Office in Dhaka and eight Regional Offices in Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka, Dinajpur, Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, and Sylhet. CB is implementing 91 on-going projects covering 201 focusing upazila on six main priorities i.e i) Social Welfare for Vulnerable Communities (SWVC), ii) Education and Child Development, iii) Nutrition and Health Education, iv) Disaster Management, v) Ecological Conservation and Food Security (ECFS), and vi) Development of Indigenous Peoples.

Job Summary:

The Junior Architecture (H&C) will be responsible for design, drawing, 3D modeling of the infrastructure related to shelter, WASH facilities, cyclone/flood shelters, assist to technical guidelines preparation and technical quality assurance and due diligence of all infrastructure including Shelter, DRR, MPDS and WASH activities in Homes & Communities project. This includes ensuring appropriateness and quality of actual work as well as support to conduct of training on technical aspects including training module preparation.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare/revise engineering /architectural design drawings & 3D architectural modeling.
  • Supervise & evaluate field activities and prepare report on the technical aspects of shelter & settlements, infrastructure, WASH, cyclone/flood shelter related activities IEC materials preparation with 3D architectural view.
  • Assist to prepare/revise technical guidelines and organize training/workshops under Homes and Communities Strategic Change Platform.
  • Support to implement a professional development plan for Shelter and Settlement (H&C), develop detailed implementation plan, organize meeting, training workshop, budget preparation etc.
  • Assist to development of personnel improvement plans for regional focal points for the H&C program.
  • Provide technical support for the design related to the H&C / S&S program. 
  • Assist during assessment, FGD, community consultation meeting etc.
  • Able to prepare one/two pager on best practices as a part of evidence building and design appropriately.
  • Support to the dissemination of learnings from research and learning activities to a variety of audiences in Bangladesh, regionally and globally, including events organized and hosted by Caritas Bangladesh (e.g. Asia Shelter Forum).
  • Track the progress of the project and report on the impact and outcomes.

Educational Qualification:

BSC in Architecture from any recognized University (freshers could apply) or Diploma in Architecture with minimum 4 years of experience.

Required Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • For BSC in Architecture, freshers could apply but experience will add value.
  • For Diploma in Architecture a minimum of 4 years’ experience on architecture related  works/projects of which 6 month experience on humanitarian Shelter & Settlement related activities/multi-purpose disaster shelter/ interior design/ architectural building design including  program implementation.
  • Substantial experience in designing, 3D modeling and architectural design, IEC materials development/revision, interior designing , design drawing preparation including different sides view.
  • Entry level skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with local communities, partner staff and policy makers.
  • Ability to work in partnership with local communities, government, and NGOs appropriately.
  • Knowledge on   local construction technologies, materials, pilot on innovations.
  • Capable to support to organize training, meeting, workshops.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.  Ability to read, analyze and assist to interpret administrative reports, technical procedures, or government regulations and policies.
  • Ability to assist to write reports, and produce manuals and guidelines and disseminate to other stakeholders.
  • Prepare different types of shelter design.
  • An influential communicator, with written and verbal skills in English and Bangla (Preferred).
  • Bangla typing and translation experience needs.

  • Have good knowledge on safeguarding related policies, GBV, Child protection policy and other relevant policy.
  • Self-reliance and an ability to work in challenging and demanding environments.

Required Languages:

Strong written and oral command in English/Bangla is required.
                                              
Travel:

Must be willing and able to travel up to the field offices as per need of the project activities. Travel in these areas can be physically demanding.
