Position Title: Field Trainer under Comprehensive prevention programs for people who inject drugs and their partners.

I.             Job Summary:  

The Field Trainer is responsible for implementing the field-level activities directly with the program participant (for example, injecting/drug users and partners) who are practicing high-risk behaviors, which confers transmission of HIV/AIDS. S/he is also responsible for raising awareness based on the behavior change communication approach, delivering community services, and increasing safer behavior practices. The position holder will be the focal of Needle Syringes Distribution and Outreach related activities and one of the main roles of the person is strengthening the monitoring of the above two components. S/he will be supervised by SPDO (Outreach).
He/she will use peer education and behavior change monitoring approach to provide community outreach services and to work with target groups jointly to identify their problems, needs, and solutions. The Field trainer is also responsible to assist for advocacy with the pertinent stakeholders, education for clients and other stakeholders, and creating a supportive social environment. S/he will provide training and supervise the outreach workers recruited from the target groups. S/he will also work for the empowerment of the target groups. S/he must be capable to work in difficult situations and have flexible working hours. S/he will be responsible to implement the NSEP program at the outreach level and ensure needle syringe distribution through depo holder/ mobile van and vending machine. S/he should undertake 90% of the time in the field.

Activities

1.

Implementation of field-level activities.

  • Rapport build-up with project participants and stakeholders
  • Prepare monthly work plan/schedule.
  • Work jointly with DIC Manager to distribute duty spots among POW/PV and shuffle/reshuffle based on needs
  • Select peers to volunteer, to develop POW through ensuring the proper training.
  • S/he will take part in the selection team of POW and PV (as per the guideline)
  • S/he will guide POW/PV in continuous spot mapping activities and through this way new spots will be identified and accordingly outreach workers will be deployed.
  •  Identify field problems & take necessary steps as per need.
  • Equip outreach staff and decorate DIC with information.
  • Participate in various program events.
  • Maintain close liaison with technical staff (STO, Counselor, Nurse, Medical Assistant) for outreach and NSP-related issues S/he will maintain close contact with NPUD EC committee/members for proper utilization and smooth coordination in field activities (NSP and Outreach)

2.

Monitoring of project activities.

  • support/guide and monitor the ‘Safe disposal’ of used needle syringes
  • Ensure effective feedback to outreach staff.
  • S/he will ensure the drop box is in the appropriate place and regular follow-up by the POW, and s/he will be closely monitored.
  • Provide On the Job Training (OJT) to outreach staff.
  • Ensure proper use of monitoring tools by outreach staff.
  • Monitor risk reduction materials delivery to project participants.
  • Assist DIC staff to maintain the record of logistics utilization.
  • Data collection and compilation from outreach staff.
  • Ensure CIS based reporting in time.
  • Data analyze to look on the changing trend of risk behaviors.
  • S/he will play focal role in capacity building of POW/PV (Outreach staff) in consultation and with support from TC (Training and Capacity Building).
  • Submit financial bill voucher & report  timely to SPDO
  • Conduct outreach visit and ensure health product divergence and collect used N/S by POW from spot and drop box.  

3.

Problem solving and community sensitization.

  • Identify field problems

  • Organize sensitization meeting/session with relevant stakeholder related to field problem.
  • Assist SPDO to conduct advocacy and DIC Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting.

4.

Ensure necessary logistics and materials at field level.

  • Logistics requirement preparation & submission to SPDO.
  • Ensure logistics and materials to DIC staff.
  • Keep track of logistics and materials supply at field level
  • Logistics requirement preparation & submission to SPDO.
  • Maintain proper storage of N/S, medicine & condom DIC.
  • Consumption report preparation and submission to SPDO

  • Orient outreach staff to practice gender issue of CARE
  • Participate in gender-related events for better understanding on gender concept & organization gender policy, zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and express solidarity.
  • Work for Rights and Social justice, fight against all form of discrimination including Gender, Good Governance and influence policy in fever of them. Orient outreach staff on RSJ to disseminate the rights issue among PWID.
  • Qualification: Master’s degree in Social Science and related subjects from any recognized public or private institution. 2 to 3 years of working experience in national or international NGOs, but will be given preference on working with People Who Inject Drugs (PWIDs) and are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Education qualification will relax for relevant experience candidates.
  • Authority: The field Trainer will directly report to Senior Program Development Officer (SPDO) Outreach. S/he will assist program staff directly and also the HIV program in the planning and implementation of program activities.
  • Contacts and key Relationships: Team Leader (operations), Technical Coordinator-Program, SPDO Outreach, Technical Coordinator A&CB, Senior Finance & Admin Officer & M&E Unit and support section.
  • Working conditions:

This is a field-based contractual position. The incumbent must be capable to work in difficult situations and have flexible working hours. Willing to undertake 90% of the time in the field including early morning & night field. He/she must be willing to work anywhere in Bangladesh and also willing to drive a bicycle.

  • Working along with CARE’s Gender Policy: S/he must be gender sensitive. Be familiar with the local Gender Focal Point(s), and go to her/him to learn more about gender issues, or when there is a gender grievance or harassment issue to resolve.
  • Monthly Salary: BDT. 33,075/= (Thirty-three thousand seventy-five) only with one festival bonus.
