Job Title: Women’s Economic Justice Dignified Work Advisor

Salary: £39,878 per annum or equivalent in local currency

Contract: Full time, Fixed Term Contract

Location: Flexible. Any country where CARE has an office in Asia

Please note that the candidate needs to have the right to work in the country where they wish to be based. This contract does not include relocation or schooling fees.

The post holder will be required to travel internationally up to approximately 30% of the time.

Within the WEJ strategy, there is an ambition to ensure that 50 million women have greater access to and control over economic resources. CARE International UK is responsible for leading the work on Women’s Economic Justice on behalf of CARE International in it’s Programme Quality Team.
The Programme Quality Team is at the centre of the new CARE International UK (CIUK) strategy for the delivery of high quality and impactful programming within CARE.  The team delivers high quality technical assistance to CARE offices around the world in the areas of Women’s Economic Justice, Inclusive Governance, Emergency Shelter and Gender and Resilience. The team also provides thought leadership, learning as well as a global perspective to CARE programmes.
The Dignified Work post holder, supported by the Head of Women and Markets, is one of a team of advisors in the Women’s Economic Justice Team. As an advisor, you will be responsible supporting the quality and scale of our Dignified Work programming alongside CARE colleagues, partners and stakeholders.  The focus of the strategy is on women workers in the garment industry.
The position holder will be part of a global team but will work closely in the Asia region to provide technical advisory support to country offices, support strategic proposals, convene experts across CARE to strengthen our work and nurture and build strategic relationships. The position holder will also use data to help us identify our impact and strengthen our approaches.
The position holder have to be a passionate, self-motivated and experienced expert on dignified work with a particular focus on gender equality in the garment industry. The position holder should have in-depth understanding of global value chains.
The position holder has to work independently and should have a track record of working at a global or regional level and of providing technical advice to large, successful donor projects. You have strong networks and also have experience of working closely companies, governments and international organisations.

Job Summary

The Dignified Work Advisor for Women’s Economic Justice is one of a team of advisor’s in the Women’s Economic Justice Team. As an Advisor position holder will contribute to the development and delivery of our Dignified Work Strategy, whilst also playing an active role in the global Women’s Economic Justice team and the wider CARE confederation.

The position holder will provide technical advice and programme design support across a range of institutional contexts, including direct assistance to country office teams as well as to corporate partners. The position holder will work predominantly with Country Offices in Asia, working collaboratively with other teams as well as supporting major initiatives such as CARE’s Made by Women strategy with minimal supervision.

The position holder will ensure consistently high programme quality, help measure impact and foster learning across CARE and with our external partners. The position holder will also actively contribute to strengthening CARE’s conceptual thinking and approach to Dignified Work and Women’s Economic Justice.

The position holder will work with colleagues including advocacy and private sector teams to help develop positions for CARE on key topics. This role will involve a level of external representation, particularly with peers and critical stakeholders to influence policy, promote CARE’s work, and develop new partnerships.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Programme Quality and Impact

  • Actively contribute to strategic thinking and development of Dignified Work Strategy and its role with the delivery of CARE’s Women’s Economic Justice Strategic Goal
  • Develop technical resources, materials and knowledge products to improve practice around Dignified Work and its interlinkage with financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and value chain development.
  • Provide high quality technical advice and capacity building across a range of institutional contexts, including direct assistance to country offices and private sector partners
  • Strengthen CARE International’s approach to achieving gender equality outcomes in
    women’s economic justice programming

Portfolio Growth, oversight and delivery

  • Responsible for portfolio development (active dignified work programming) and oversight
  • New Funds and Resources
  • Attract and identify significant resources in line with fundraising targets, including working with the programme funding and private sector engagement teams globally to identify new opportunities for the Dignified Work Strategy
  • Meet cost recovery targets for technical assistance to donors, foundations and companies in association with country offices and CIUK’s fundraising team
  • Enhance the confederation’s commitment to raise awareness about CARE’s work in Women’s Economic Justice

Multiplying Impact

  • With programme, policy and advocacy colleagues proactively contribute to/lead on efforts towards CARE’s impact at scale efforts including through advocacy, replicating proven models and supporting social movements.
  • Drive learning and knowledge management by authoring, commissioning and contributing to publications, policy documents, and other resource materials for internal and external audiences
  • Stay abreast of current debate and practice related to economic justice and private sector development, in particular Dignified Work and Ethical Trade
  • Represent CARE externally
  • Report against global indicators

  • Contribute to efforts to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness as appropriate.

Education & Qualifications

BA, MA in development or related subject or equivalent expertise.

  • In-depth understanding and experience of key concepts in Women’s Economic Justice and expertise in applying these to development programmes.
