Position Title: Communication Specialist (Healthier Rice Program, BRRI)

Supervisor: Principal Investigator, Healthier Rice Program,

Duty Station: BRRI campus, Gazipur
Contract: 2 years (including a probation period of 6 months) with possibility of extension
Monthly Gross Salary: BDT 50,000-60,000/-
Other benefits: Two (02) festival bonuses

Purpose

  • Coordinate BRRI’s outreach and advocacy activities to support the Healthier Rice Program, working in close collaboration with the DG, Office, BRRI, the Healthier Rice Program team and the BRRI Communications department, this includes  identifying target stakeholders, evaluating their information needs and potential engagement opportunities.
  • Develop communication collateral and materials to support policy advocacy campaigns and strategies and individual stakeholder engagement opportunities in alignment with IRRI HRP strategies.
  • Actively seek and manage media inquiries from Bangladesh and the region, with strict adherence to approved project guidelines for media engagement.

Engagement

  • Working closely with the Healthier Rice team at the IRRI Dhaka Office and the BRRI Senior Liaison Officer, actively participate in the development and implementation of the project communication and stakeholder engagement plan \
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities to engage with target stakeholders, including BRRI internal and sector stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the wider BRRI team and the Healthier Rice Program international team to deliver communication materials that are appropriate for each stage of the project and timely.
  • Work closely with consultants, advisors, suppliers, vendors, etc. to align initiatives and ensure delivery of commitments.
  • Keep internal and external partners up-to-date on the status of the project and ensure their communication needs are met.
  • Support the general communication needs of BRRI as required, up to a 20% time allocation, including support to the Director General and other BRRI senior leaders in communication and engagement related activities.

Delivery

  • Develop appropriate briefing materials for target stakeholder meetings to assist BRRI DG, BRRI Healthier Rice Program team members and other program spokespeople provide accurate and engaging project briefings
  • Recommend and develop an appropriate mix of traditional and social media elements/ posts to sustain relationships with relevant target stakeholders in Bangladesh
  • Plan engagements within the nutrition, biotechnology and poverty alleviation communities in Bangladesh as well as other key stakeholder groups, in close collaboration with the BRRI DG Office, BRRI senior leaders and BRRI and IRRI Healthier Rice Program team members.
  • Prepare key messages, stories, updates, infographics and other information material and ensure they are distributed across all print and digital platforms to keep them up-to-date.
  • Write and edit FAQs, news and feature stories, scripts, etc. for use across multiple channels/platforms (printed materials, website, social media, etc.) on the project’s status, milestones, events, and the like, for policy advocacy campaigns and strategies.
  • Recommend and implement strategies to popularize communication materials for target audiences and media, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project documents, international journal articles, progress reports, project proposals, concept notes, audit reports, and other publications.
  • Monitor traditional and social media for story coverage, including collecting data and other relevant inputs to prepare regular media monitoring and stakeholder engagement reports.
  • Maintain and regularly update  a database of local media contacts, stakeholder profiles, and other project documents relevant to stakeholder engagement

Qualifications

  • Master degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Mass Communication, English, Business Administration, agricultural science or any other social science or humanities disciplines from a recognized university at home or abroad
  • Degree in agricultural science from a recognized university would be an added advantage for candidates who fulfill the other requirements.
  • Post-secondary education or industry experience in biotechnology or other regulated food sectors would be an added advantage for candidates who fulfill the other requirements.

Skills and Knowledge

  • At least 4-5 years of demonstrable experience of working in a similar role in a reputed national or international organization.
  • At least 2-3 years of demonstrable experience of working as a journalist in a reputed media (print, electronic, online) will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience of liaising with government officials/offices/agencies will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in both English and Bangla.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Google Suit.
  • Ability to handle designing software (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing tools (such as SEO, AdSense, AdWords, community management, etc.) will be an added advantage.
