Head of Arts

Role Purpose:

To work with the UK and Bangladesh Arts sectors to develop collaborative programmes and partnerships which deepen bilateral cultural understanding through the arts. Specifically, to lead on the Arts programme in Bangladesh, including the design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation, to achieve impact as outlined in the regional arts strategy and country plan.

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following: 

Stakeholder Management and Business Development

  • Keeping professionally updated on arts developments in Bangladesh and the UK that affect strategy and delivery.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent networks and relationships with the arts and creative sectors in Bangladesh, helping to match them with potential partners and collaborators in the UK and South Asia, and identifying potential partners and beneficiaries for new British Council programme activity

Programme Design and Management

  • Contribute to the development of regional arts strategy and country strategy
  • Development and delivery of an innovative arts programme which responds to the regional Arts strategy and country strategy, working closely with UK art form leads
  • Commissioning of research, developing project concepts and writing project proposals
  • Ensuring Arts projects are managed to a high standard and meet the project objectives
  • Monitoring and evaluation of events and activities to ensure they achieve the required impact, income, and leverage

Financial Planning and Management

  • Planning and management of the Arts budget (expenditure and income), ensuring spend and profiling match the annual targets
  • Working with the Procurement team to ensure financial compliance and risk management according to British Council policies for Arts budget

Role specific knowledge and experience:

The post holder will need to develop successful relationships with:

  • External stakeholders in the arts, government, and civil society in Bangladesh
  • Internal stakeholders, including Director Bangladesh, Deputy Director Bangladesh, Director Arts South Asia and other South Asia Arts team colleagues, UK art form leads and Bangladesh Programme Directors and Heads for English, Education and Society
  • The post holder will understand the importance of child protection and ensure polices and processes are in place to offer maximum protection of young people at all relevant events and venues and ensure compliance with corporate Child Protection policies.
  • The post holder will understand and make decisions which are affected by Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) legislation and policy. Additionally, s/he will exploit opportunities brought by diversity and build them into all planning.
  • The post holder will need to be flexible in terms of occasional in country and international travel and weekend and evening work

Location – Bangladesh-Dhaka
Requirements – Candidates must have the pre-existing right to work in location.
