Senior Sector Specialist, Climate Change Programme (CCP), BRAC (Project Staff)

JOB PURPOSE:

To ensure effective technical support and field-level implementation of climate-smart agriculture initiatives, contributing to increased productivity and resilience. The role focuses on promoting and scaling up climate-resilient agricultural technologies, empowering farmers to adopt sustainable practices that strengthen livelihoods and food security.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support for standing crops through regular field visits, supervision, and follow-up of ongoing activities.
  • Conduct training, orientation, and refresher sessions for programme participants to strengthen their technical knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate the dissemination and adoption of climate-resilient agricultural technologies at the farmers’ level.
  • Select programme participants based on established criteria and prepare crop-cutting, cost–benefit, and other relevant project reports.
  • Lead awareness-raising and capacity-building initiatives to promote climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Oversee the distribution of agricultural inputs and materials to support climate-adaptive farming activities.
  • Maintain effective relationships with farmers, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and achievement of programme outputs at the field level.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and networks with relevant local stakeholders to enhance programme reach and sustainability.
  • Support the overall implementation, monitoring, and reporting of field-level programme activities.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action. 
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
  Requirements

  • Assist in planning, budgeting, and coordinating field-level activities to ensure timely and quality implementation of project interventions.
  • Collect, analyze, and document field data, lessons learned, and success stories to support evidence-based decision-making and knowledge sharing.
  • Identify challenges, risks, and emerging issues in field operations and provide practical solutions or escalate them to supervisors for timely action.
  • Support the integration of gender and social inclusion considerations in all climate-smart agriculture activities.
  • Coordinate with research institutions, extension services, and private sector actors to promote innovation and technology transfer.
  • Monitor the performance of demonstration plots and farmer groups to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with project standards, organizational policies, and environmental safeguards.
  • Contribute to periodic progress reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) principles, sustainable farming systems, and resilience-building approaches.
  • In-depth knowledge of agronomic practices, crop management, and soil and water conservation techniques.
  • Familiarity with climate change impacts on agriculture and adaptation strategies for smallholder farmers.
  • Awareness of agricultural value chains, market linkages, and farm economics.
  • Basic understanding of data collection, monitoring tools, and reporting formats in development projects.

Skills:

  • Excellent technical advisory and field facilitation skills for working directly with farmers and community groups.
  • Strong training and capacity-building skills with participatory learning approaches.
  • Proficient in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Effective coordination, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Competence in using digital tools for agriculture monitoring, training, or reporting (e.g., mobile-based survey tools, GIS).
  • Good organizational and time management skills to handle multiple field assignments efficiently.

Educational Requirements:

Master’s Degree in any subject related on Agriculture (Agronomy/Horticulture/ Agro-Forestry/Plant Pathology and others) or any relevant subject.

Experience Requirement:

At least 3 years of experience in the development sector, including work in agriculture, livelihoods, and climate change. Prior experience in climate change adaptation and the agriculture sector will be considered an added advantage.
