Background:
Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) is one of the partners of implementing a component of Climate Justice Resilience Project with generous support from the Coastal Association of Social Transformation (COAST).
COAST is implementing the multi-year project on Community led initiatives for climate justice and resilience in the islands and coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh (Climate Justice Resilience Project).
The Coastal Association for Social Transformation {COAST) Trust is a non-profit NGO working for the coastal poor in Bangladesh since 1998. It has originated from a project of an international non-government organization IlNGO) working from 1982 to 1997 in Bhola lsland. COAST is registered with NGO Affair's Bureau (NGOAB) of Prime Minister's Office, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and for micro finance operation it has from Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) of Bangladesh Bank
COAST has been two times (2010 and 2013) certified for accountability and quality management by Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) at present which is merged with CHS Alliance (www.chsallience.org) based in Geneva. The organization has also received silver certificate from MIX Market (www.mixmarket.org) during 2011 for inclusion of social issues with its micro finance operation.
Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) is a Media Development Organization(MDO) launched in 2000 which is registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau of Prime Minister’s Office, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Its outreach extends to local, national and international forums for Knowledge-Driven Media Development (KDMD). It is in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) accredited with World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) of the United Nations and it is also one of the winners of UN WSIS prize 2016 and Champion 2017 and 2019.
BNNRC’s approach to media development is both knowledge-driven and context-sensitive, and it takes into account the challenges and opportunities created by the rapidly changing media environment in Bangladesh including community radio development giving voices for the voiceless.
BNNRC is playing pioneering role for improving recognition of the community electronic media sector (Community Radio, Community TV, Community Film) & its work in and involvement with the communities. BNNRC represent the community electronic media sector to Government, Industry, Regulatory Bodies, Media, Academia and Development Partners.
BNNRC is supported by contributions from different development organizations worldwide who share a commitment in building a free, independent and pluralistic community media of voices for the voiceless.
BNNRC now strives for the following core interventions to contribute in achieving 7th five Years Plan of Government of Bangladesh, UN World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS) Action Plan, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through: Community Media Development (Community Radio & Community TV Community Film) for amplifying voices for the voiceless, Right to Information (RTI) for ensuring improved livelihood of the marginalized, ICT for Development for Bridging the Digital Divide in rural areas, Amateur Radio or HAM Radio for Disaster Risk Reduction, Community Film for Social Transformation.
Organizational Setting:
We are looking for a dynamic, proactive and strategic person to join with us as the Program Officer - Climate Justice Resilience for implementing one of the major components of Community led initiatives for climate justice and resilience in the islands and coastal areas of the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh.
The position is located at Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC), House: 9/4 Road: 2 Shamoly, Dhaka 1207. BNNRC is housed in 1500 sq. ft. full furnished apartment owned by the organization. It has all the modern office use facilities equipped with information technologies.
This project has been awarded by UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) as a champion 2019.
Purpose Statement:
Program Officer - Climate Justice shall have the following responsibilities
- Play an active role in achieving the objectives of the project.
- Ensure effective implementation and program monitoring.
- Coordinate and follows areas community radio programs within the selected community radio stations in the Coastal of the Bay of Benga.l
- Build a strong network within the amateur radio/ HAM Radio holders within the Coastal of the Bay of Bengal.
- Establish a Regional Amateur Radio /HAM Radio institute for The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) countries in Bangladesh for providing higher education, building capacity, organize research and development (r&d) and provide technical cooperation to the Amateur Radio /HAM Radio holders. The institute will have an affiliation with any University located in any of the BIMSTEC countries.
- Monitoring and supervision to build up a new community radio station in Swandwip Island.
- Play active role to support organization in proceeding with current lobby and advocacy agenda related to ensure the voice for voice less people.
Requirement:
Masters or equivalent degree preferably in Social Science / CSE / EEE/ Environmental Science from any University, At least 2 years work experience in the development field and or coastal areas with NGOs.
Having excellent presentation & communications skills both in Bangla & in English, Ready to undertake extensive field visits within and outside Dhaka,
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize assignments, work within strict time constraints and to meet deadlines with creative and critical thinking.
- Those who have Amateur Radio license and call sign will get preference of the post.
- In habitant of Coastal Districts will also get preference for the position.
Computer Knowledge: MS word, Office, Power point and writing in Bangla (bijoy) and English.
Language (Essential): Excellent written and spoken skill’s in English.
Job Related Competencies (Essential):
Excellent project management skills and sound knowledge of project-management methodologies, tools, planning and control techniques.
Salary: 35-40 Thousand (Gross)
