Position: Category Manager

Location: Tejgaon, Dhaka

Overview

The Category Manager leads the end-to-end strategy, execution, and performance monitoring of assigned product categories. This role is pivotal in translating market insights and business objectives into actionable plans across sales, marketing, product development, supply chain, and financial domains. The Category Manager ensures balanced carcass utilization, drives profitability, maximizes channel performance, and supports sustainable growth through cross-functional leadership and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement short-term and long-term category strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead carcass balancing strategy and decisions to optimize product mix and profitability.
  • Define category vision, product roadmap, and market positioning to ensure long-term competitiveness.
  • Design exit plans for low-performing SKUs while identifying white space opportunities for growth.
  • Drive revenue and margin targets through channel prioritization, pricing strategy, and customer segmentation.
  • Collaborate with Sales Heads to translate category objectives into channel-level sales and activation plans.
  • Align trade marketing and consumer promotion strategies with category objectives.
  • Assist the design of brand and category communication strategies in collaboration with Marketing.
  • Review and approve promotional calendars, creative concepts, and campaign performance reports.
  • Coordinate with NPD, QA, Production, Supply Chain, and Inventory teams to ensure category-level alignment.
  • Lead market research initiatives (consumer, competitor, channel) to stay ahead of trends and threats.
  • Commission and interpret research studies to shape innovation, assortment, and pricing strategy.
  • Conduct regular market/Client visits for field insights.
  • Oversee the collection and interpretation of sales, margin, and operational data to guide strategic decisions.
  • Set pricing architecture by analyzing cost structures, competitor pricing, and price elasticity.
  • Drive cost optimization strategies without compromising product or brand value.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Category Management, ideally within the FMCG or food industry.
  • A background in Sales and Marketing is an added advantage, along with strong insight into consumer behavior and promotional planning.
  • Hands-on experience in product selection, pricing strategy, inventory control, and supplier collaboration.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with category management tools will be considered a plus.

Educational Requirement:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Administration/Marketing/Economics/Finance or a related field.
