VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people over the last 52 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, livelihood, health, WASH, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.

BDRCS, under its Population Movement Operation (PMO), has been providing humanitarian services since 2017 for the displaced Rohingya people from Rakhine state of Myanmar who have been sheltered in different camps under Ukhiya and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar. Currently, BDRCS is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position under PMO, Cox’s Bazar:

Job title : Assistant WASH Officer.
Duration of contract : Initially up to 31.12.2024 (with possibility of extension).
Organizational Unit/Department  : HR and Admin (PMO).
Salary Range : Up to 45,000/-
Number of Post : 01 (One).
Reporting line : WASH Coordinator, PMO, Cox’s Bazar, BDRCS.
Age Limit : 40 years (may be relaxed in case of outstanding candidates).
Duty station : Field Based, PMO, Cox’s Bazar.

Educational Qualification:

  • At least graduation in any subject, preferably in business /environmental science/engineering.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate a high level of motivation and good communication, social and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Bangla English language typing. Required fluency in both spoken and written Bangla and English languages.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in WASH and Solid Waste Management.
  • At least 1 year of working experience in managing supervisors and volunteers in the camps.
  • Good communication skills in English and Bangla.
  • Good computer skills (MS Office and Internet).
  • Can adapt to local conditions (culture, language, geography).
  • Willing to work and committed to local communities.
  • Good coordination and leadership skills.
  • Clear concept of solid waste management.
  • Good reporting skills.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • Daily field visits and monitor technical interventions (hardware and software) to ensure implementation according to agreed standards and within budget and take appropriate remedial action if/when standards are not being met.
  • Co-responsible for organizing activities related to the project, such as assessments, field events, surveys, awareness-raising sessions and rallies, competitions, etc.
  • Ensure that the project is implemented in accordance with BDRCS policies and procedures.
  • Identify the needs for repair and maintenance, upgradation, and decommissioning of WASH facilities in the camps through regular visits.
  • Follow-up and supervision of the construction, upgradation, repair, and maintenance work of WASH facilities as per design and BoQ.
  • Operation and maintenance of the MRFs/FSTPs to ensure the effective functioning of the facilities/ plants, overseeing regular maintenance activities and troubleshooting any operational issues.
  • Ensure smooth operations of waste/sludge collection and transportation from selected Blocks to the plants/facilities.
  • Maintain and monitor stocks/inventory at field-level warehouses.
  • Monitor the activities of different levels of volunteers, including supervisors/guards, and guide them in doing quality activities as per sector/BDRCS standards.
  • Conduct community feedback and consultation meetings with camp-level stakeholders like Majhi, religious leaders, user groups/committees, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Camp in Charge, Site management, WASH focal, partners, and other organizations to achieve project goals.
  • Submit weekly/Monthly reports to the line manager.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Good command in Computer Operation.
  • Organization and coordination skills.
  • Fluent in English and Bangla.

  • Adhere to the 7 fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.
  • Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
  • Able to work in a team and respect the opinions of others.
  • Honest and high level of integrity.
