Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people over the last 48 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.

Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position under Population Movement Operation (PMO), Cox’s Bazar:

Job title : Community Facilitator - PSS.
Duration of contract : Up to 31.12.2023 (Possibility of extension)
Organizational Unit/Department : PMO, BDRCS/Health Post
Service status  : PMO, BDRCS
Salary Range : 40,722/-
Number of Post : 1 (one)
Reporting line : Sr. PSS Officer
Age Limit : 35 years (may be relaxed in case of outstanding candidates)
Duty station : Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mobilization of community members to participate and learn from the activities and services provided through the PSS program.
  • Improve the mental health and psychosocial conditions of the beneficiaries
  • Support community outreach volunteers provide quality psychosocial support to affected individuals and families.
  • Strengthen the referral system between the health center, specialized PSS service providers and the PSS focal point in the camp and host communities
  • Management of community volunteers in implementation of planned activities in the field.
  • Support volunteers in forming, engaging and retaining targeted groups of people and or individuals
  • Support community outreach volunteers provide quality psychosocial support to affected individuals and families.
  • Support staff and volunteers take care of their mental health and psychosocial wellbeing
  • Prepare weekly activity plans for the different PSS activities in the targeted communities.
  • Together with volunteers, facilitate PSS sessions for groups, individuals and in outreach
  •  Organize regular community awareness meetings for community members in target blocks/ village
  • Support volunteers to prepare daily report
  • Organize parent sessions as planned.
  • Oversee the general management and running of the community safe space as may be assigned
  • Compile and submit weekly activity reports
  • Together with the volunteers think of and initiate relevant activities that promote the psychosocial wellbeing and resilience of targeted people in camps and host communities.
  • Carry out any other task as may be assigned by the PSS officers.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualification required:

  • Minimum Graduate in psychology/counselling psychology/social works/behavioral sciences.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of experience in similar position with National or International NGOs
  • Experience in Psychological First Aid activities in a camp setting
  • Experience in basic/lay counselling (individual or group) especially with adults
  • PSS trainings and experience can be also considered if they are from different background. 
  • Should have experience in working with psychosocial support programs at camp level.
  • Excellent community mobilization and communication skills
  • Training in community mobilization, psychological First Aid, community engagement and accountability.
  • Ability to understand write and speak fluently in English Bengali, Rohingya/Chittagongian dialect.
  • Must be computer literate.

Personal Qualities

  • Strong organizational skills, methodological and logical approach to tasks and problem solving
  • Good communication, facilitation, and note-taking skills
  • Ability to organize, analyse and synthesise large amounts of information about field
  • Demonstrated ability to promote collaboration
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Advanced Psychological skills (e.g., PFA, Stress Management)
