VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people over the last 54 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, anticipatory action, disaster management, health, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.

BDRCS in collaboration with the German Red Cross is going to implement “Rajshahi Youth and Children in Advancing Climate Adaptation and Anticipatory Action within Education System (RACE)” project in one of the heatwaves prone districts of Bangladesh. Therefore, BDRCS has initiated the hiring process to support the implementation of this project.

We are looking for a competent Bangladeshi National for the following positions:

Job Purpose:

The Field Officer will support the implementation of a school-based climate adaptation and anticipatory action initiative in Rajshahi City under the Y-Adapt and Anticipatory Action framework. The position will play a key role in building the capacity of children, youth, and school communities to prepare for and mitigate the impacts of extreme heat and other weather events linked to climate change. Working under the Anticipatory Action, Disaster & Climate Risk Management department along with overall coordination with unit level office-Rajshahi City Red Crescent unit, GRC and other relevant Partners. The Field Officer will ensure timely execution of activities, quality reporting, field monitoring, volunteer engagement, and stakeholder collaboration. The role requires strong community and youth engagement skills and a commitment to strengthening climate resilience in urban and peri-urban level schools.

Job Description / Responsibility:

Project Implementation and Progress Monitoring:

  • Ensure continuous monitoring, quality and timely implementation of all activities.
  • Facilitate school-based Y-Adapt, Anticipatory Action (AA) and other preparedness activities.
  • Ensuring all interventions are implemented, monitored and reported correctly to all key stakeholders.
  • Support the development and rollout of climate action plans led by children and youth.
  • Ensure effective utilization of project budgets, keeping the overall goal and objectives of the program.
  • Ensure implementation aligns with workplan, budget, and quality standards.
  • Regularly visit the project areas, plan and monitor activities during implementation of the project.
  • Create a positive environment among the team members so that the multidimensional team can demonstrate their full potential.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with BDRCS, GRC and other Movement partners to plan, organize and deliver project activities.
  • Maintain regular coordination with school authorities, BDRCS Unit, educational institutions and government stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Strengthen collaboration between schools, universities and local communities by connecting them with relevant service providers for climate resilience and heatwave preparedness.
  • Supervise and support all field activities while fostering long-term, sustainable relationships with community groups and government agencies.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare good-quality reports and evidence-based documentation of project activities.
  • Generate case studies, success stories and behavior-change evidence showcasing youth-led adaptation initiatives at schools.
  • Collect, collate and analyze data to ensure progress report of the project every week and month.
  • Maintain accurate records of simulations, training sessions, capacity support and micro-grant implementation according to the Detailed Implementation Plan.
  • Support to effectively assess, design, monitor and report on project activities regularly.

Community Engagement, Inclusion & Accountability

  • Ensure all activities reflect child-friendly approaches, gender & inclusion, sensitivity, and community feedback mechanisms.
  • Promote meaningful youth participation and build ownership among students, teachers and volunteers.
  • Support dissemination and peer-learning platforms among schools for shared experience and strategy replication.

Teamwork:

  • Collaborate closely with GRC throughout assessment, project planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, and reporting processes.
  • Maintain strong communication and a positive working relationship with GRC counterparts, ensuring full compliance with project standards and procedures.

Leadership and Capacity Development:

  • Supervise and mentor Red Crescent Youth Volunteers and youth groups engaged in implementation.
  • Provide technical guidance on climate adaptation, heat-risk preparedness and anticipatory action planning.
  • Organize training sessions, refreshers and hands-on learning opportunities to strengthen youth leadership capacity.
  • Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager.

Education requirements:

  • Master’s degree in geography & environment, disaster management, development studies, social science or related field experience in Climate Change, Anticipatory Action, DRR, or youth adapt/development are encouraged to apply.

Experience requirements:

  • At least 02 years working experience in the field of DRR, climate change, anticipatory action, youth engagement and other similar fields.
  • Working experience in the field of education and emergency response context is an advantage.

Skill requirements (in addition to the above-mentioned):

  • Applicants must be motivated self-starters and competent professionals.
  • Knowledge, training and facilitation skills on DRM and Climate Change are a must.
  • Applicants must be skilled in leading and working in a multi-faceted team.
  • Applicants must be skilled in documentation and communication through quality narrative and numeric reporting.
  • Good computer literacy in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel is a must.
  • Knowledge of digital data collection (e.g., Kobo) is an advantage.
  • Community mobilization experience and working experience in Rajshahi city will be considered as an asset.
