VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Background:
Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh and provides humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people as an auxiliary to the government. Over the last 52 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, like disaster management, shelter, health, WASH, capacity building and in promoting Red Cross/ Red Crescent ideals and principles.
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), in collaboration with IFRC and PNS, implements comprehensive health projects in Cox’s Bazar to enhance the health and well-being of displaced individuals and host communities. These initiatives aim to reduce morbidity and preventable mortality by prioritizing maternal and child health through family planning, pregnancy care, newborn care, vaccinations, and non-communicable disease (NCD) management. Aligned with health sector priorities, the projects provide curative and preventive healthcare, community health messaging, and services such as Clinical Health Services, Community-Based Health and First Aid (CBHFA), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). Key interventions include the construction and equipping of Field Hospitals, Primary Health Care Centers, Mother and Child Health Centers, and Health Posts, thereby strengthening community resilience and ensuring improved access to essential healthcare services.
Under PMO operation, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS implements a project “Improving and scaling up the Quality of Health Services in the Field Hospital for Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh. The interventions include Provision of comprehensive healthcare services including 24/7 emergency case management, OPD IPD laboratory services and Psychosocial support, expansion of SRH services by establishment of Gynae and Obstetrics units, including Epidemic Preparedness response Center (EPRC) for early detection and rapid response to any epidemics.
Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi Obs & Gynae Specialist to join a team of dedicated health professionals to provide the best possible care for the patients.

Responsibilities:
- To maintain the highest professional ethical value and humanity in dealing with the patients.
- Provide specialist consultation/treatment and surgical interventions as may be required by the referred patients, prescribe medication, interpret investigations.
- Carry out daily rounds for admitted obstetric and gynecological patients including pre & post-operative cases, with support of other doctors and health professionals at the health facility.
- Overseeing and managing the MCH clinic; supporting and training staff, advice on improvements to service delivery as well as direct provision of antenatal, perinatal, and post-natal services for complicated cases.
- Perform Ultrasonography (USGs) for all cases including pregnant women with complications and other obstetric and gynecological cases and advise accordingly.
- Provide on-the-job training to doctors and other health staff on the best management practices for improved quality of care with the aim of improving patients’ treatment outcomes.
- Supervise and mentor, doctor, mid-wives, nurse and other mid-level healthcare professionals;
- Oversee maternal and reproductive health education messages and information packages provided to clients at the facility, also support information and content development to support community awareness partners.
- Always being available to attend obstetrics emergencies by being the first on-call if required to ensure the emergency services for the 24 hours 7 days a week.
- Support with documentation and reporting of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality information.
- Assist to prepare periodic reports and other requests for information as required.
- Provide technical support and guidance for quantification of all drugs and other related supplies to avoid stock-out.
- Support the schedules and maintenance of medical equipment, surgical suite (theatre), including operating, wash-up, waiting rooms, and anesthetic and sterilizing equipment.
- Liaise and coordinates with local Government and health authorities and other stakeholders with a view to strengthening of health care delivery systems
- Support the facility’s staff in project monitoring and identifying priority health needs and other activities including but not limited to regular disease outbreak monitoring and reporting to the health authorities and take part in health awareness campaign, etc.
- Facilitate referrals and assisted transportation of critical cases to functioning secondary health facilities or hospitals when required in accordance with organizational mandate and procedures directly or through health partners;
- Inform the secondary referral center about the referred case with significant medical condition to ensure proper and timely patient handling at the referral center upon arrival.
- Provide technical oversight for the training of community volunteers for outreach activities, community mobilization and awareness raising among vulnerable beneficiaries to increase service utilization in a hard-to-reach area.
- Perform such other relevant duties assigned by the line manager and supervisor.
Professional requirements
Education
Completed university degree in Medical science (MBBS) with post-graduate qualification (FCPS, MS, Diploma) on Gynaecology and Obstetrics from an accredited academic institution along with valid updated registration license to practice from the BM&DC.
Experience
- At least five years of experience in relevant areas of specialization, i.e.: at secondary to tertiary level with Operation Theatre (OT) providing Obstetrics and gynaecology services.
- Knowledge and experience with working in the field of public health will be an added advantage.
- Strong client orientation and service approach with personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, and drive for results;
- High degree of judgment and initiative; ability to work with a high degree of independence within assigned areas.
- Working experience in Cox’s Bazar and/or knowledge of the Forcedly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) will be a plus.
Skills
- Good in written communication in English and Bangla
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Power Point
- Excellent communication and analytical skills;
