The Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society has provided humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people over the last 53 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building, and promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.
BDRCS, under its Population Movement Operation (PMO), has been providing humanitarian services since 2017 for the displaced Rohingya people from Rakhine state of Myanmar who have been sheltered in different camps under Ukhiya and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar. Currently, BDRCS is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position under PMO, Cox’s Bazar:
Position Title: Psychosocial Support (PSS) Officer.
Number of positions: 02 (Female).
Job Nature: Contractual.
Duration of Contract: Up to December 2025.
Salary Range: Up to BDT. 50000/-.
Age Limit: Up to 40 years (may be relaxed in case of outstanding candidates).
Reportable to: PSS program Focal, PMO, BDRCS.
Workstation: Field Hospital PMO, BDRCS, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
Enhance and improve Mental Health and Psychosocial well-being of affected population of the Host Community and staff and volunteers as well as assist to the community volunteers of MCHC center in delivering quality psychosocial support. To integrate and strengthen MHPSS intervention in MCHC. Additionally, she will be responsible to implement overall psychological intervention in MCHC Teknaf for Host communities and ensuring sensitizing and capacities staff and volunteers mental health and well-being.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Overseeing screening, identifying and following up on psychosocial support interventions in MCHC.
- Overall responsible for planning and implementation of PSS activities at the field level
- Identify, assess and provide PFA, Lay counselling.
- Maintain dignified safe Referral and follow-up.
- Conduct psychoeducation and awareness session with NCD support group
- Arrange orientation for community Volunteer for capacity building.
- Conduct PSS Study session, Psychosocial de-briefing session with staff & volunteer and MHPSS Supervision session with volunteer.
- Participate in Coordination meetings and stakeholder meetings.
- Identify MHPSS training needs for health post staff and contribute to training sessions in collaboration with the supervisor
- Train Health Facility volunteers on psychological first aid Sensitize medical doctor, nurse, midwife & paramedics staff to psychological and psychosocial issues
- Assist the PSS project team in MHPSS IEC material development and training deliveries on topics regarding needs identified.
- Work closely with the project team & other cross-cutting sectors to ensure appropriate accountability and feedback mechanisms are established within the project
- Refer to cases and liaise with relevant sectoral focal in the assigned camps.
- Develop technical reports on specific cases identified during the individual psychological support sessions.
- Conduct awareness session for promotion of Social Cohesion by Preventing Stigma, and Stereotypes.
- Respect confidentiality of information strictly without sharing it with others, also ensure that information obtained during meetings is dealt with confidentially
- Making action plans and submitting monthly reports including database and kobo.
- Attend regular team meetings.
- Assist Sr. PSS Officer with collecting data and reporting.
- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor.
Reporting and Documentation
- Compile & concise useful and analytical reports, case studies, and other documents as needed on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Regularly report to the supervisor with activity updates.
- Skills on a good presentation.

Skills and Qualifications
- Masters / bachelor’s degree in psychology from a public/private university.
- Minimum 03 (three) years of experience in a similar position with National or International NGOs.
- Fluency in local (languages) required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, skill on showing empathy, non-judgmental approach and respect is essential.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Gender sensitive and familiar with humanitarian principles, Human Rights Based Approach.
- Work as a team player and have flexibility in his/her work.
- Ability to work independently and foster a team spirit and to develop and implement supervision and training activities that help expand community participation.
- An understanding of and commitment to BDRCS and RCRC movement’s mission and values.
- Must have cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multi-cultural team.
- Fluent in spoken and written (Bangla & English)
- Honesty encourages openness and transparency; demonstrates highest levels of integrity
- Good knowledge of using internet and software packages (i.e., MS Office, etc.)
