VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people over the last 52 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building, and in promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.

Currently, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position under UNHCR supported “Bhasanchar Operation (BCO)”:

Job title : Energy Officer
Position : 01 (one).
Duration of contract : Till 31st December 2023 (with the possibility of extension).
Salary Range : Up to BDT. 65,000/- (Monthly Consolidated).
Reporting to : Coordinator, Bhasan Char Operation.
Age limit : 36 years (age limit will be relaxed in case of the potential candidate).
Duty station : Bhasan Char, Hatiya Noakhali.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum B.Sc. Engineering in Electrical background from a reputed institution.
  • At least 03 years of working experience in a relevant field.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • Develop, demonstrate, and maintain energy efficiency opportunities on the Bhasan Char refugee settlement.
  • Proper utilization of biogas facility to reduce the pressure on the LPG supply and ensure the proper use of environmental energy.
  • Conduct community-level demonstrations on safe cooking and monitor the LPG refill cycle to understand the efficiency of used LPG stoves and other equipment.
  • Conduct regular assessments to ensure the functionality of the Solar equipment including Solar Street lights and Solar Power Plants.
  • Develop and maintain a tracker for the electrical appliances and solar equipment with location, functionality, and next possible maintenance time (if required).
  • Liaise with NAVY, RRRC, and other govt. authority to build coordination and ensure participatory action in terms of taking decisions and implementing energy-related activities on Bhasan Char.
  • Develop and implement guidelines on theft prevention measures.
  • Conduct regular FGD, and Community Consultation activities to ensure community participation in the implementation of the activities and AAP commitment.
  • Coordinate with other technical component of the operation like field, distribution, CWC, IM and others.
  • Produce timely and periodic reports to circulate among the BDRCS higher authority and UNHCR team.

Skills & abilities:

  • Good Computer skills.
  • Organizing, Coordination and Planning skills.
  • Sound knowledge in subject area.
  • Should be able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to facilitate regular field visit.
  • Fluent in English, Bangla and Rohingya language.

  • Adhere to the 7 fundamental principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.
  • Act at all times in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
  • Able to work in a team and respects opinions of others.
  • Honest and high level of integrity.
  • Assist the organization on occasion, in times of national, international, local emergencies or major disasters.
