The Red Cross - Red Crescent movement is the largest volunteer organization in the world. Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is a national society of the movement, constituted on 31 March 1973 by the President's Order No. 26 of 1973 with retrospective effect from 16 December 1971. This is the biggest humanitarian organization in Bangladesh. As an auxiliary to the government, the Society provides humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people over the last 52 years and has undertaken a wide range of activities in humanitarian response, disaster management, health, capacity building, and in promoting Red Cross/Red Crescent ideals and principles.
Currently, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is looking for a suitable Bangladeshi national for the following position of Climate Change Adaptation Programme in Narayanganj Project funded by the British Red Cross:

Organizational context
The Bangladesh Red Cross Society was constituted on 31 March 1973. The Society was recognized by ICRC on 20 September 1973 and admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on 2 November 1973. The name and emblem were changed from Red Cross to Red Crescent on 4th April 1988 vide Act 25 of 1988. BDRCS National Headquarters at Red Crescent Sarak, Boro Moghbazar, Dhaka is the Secretariat of the Society. The Secretary-General, appointed by the Managing Board, heads the Secretariat. The BDRCS has 68 Units. A Unit is constituted in each district and in the Metropolitan cities of Dhaka. Chittagong, Rajshahi & Khulna. Its vision is to `To become a leading humanitarian organization by mobilizing the power of humanity`. And mission statement is `The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, a volunteer-based humanitarian organization, endeavors to prevent and reduce human sufferings and save lives of the most vulnerable and marginalized groups by providing effective and efficient services through mobilizing resources in emergencies and normal times. |
Job purpose
The Community Organizer will provide the operational Support and effective implementation of the project activities at the community level. The Community Organiser will organize meetings and mobilize the community to effectively implement WASH, DRR, and livelihood activities, focusing on Climate Change adaptation. The post holder is responsible for ensuring quality information and feedback system, increasing community participation and transparency for all activities to be implemented in the community, and extending efficient support to data collection, monitoring, and documentation of regular activities. |
Job duties and responsibilities
Community Organiser of the Project:
- Facilitate the formation and functioning of different project-supported community groups such as women’s squads, youth groups, etc. in the community.
- Organize regular meetings of project-supported community groups as per the project plan of action and requirements of the project.
- Assist the project-supported community groups in keeping updated records, and accounts during the implementation of the contracts.
- Mobilize communities to support household surveys, household selection, EVCA exercise, livelihood assessment, simulation, contingency planning, etc. at the community level.
- Facilitate the preparation of community action plans (CAP) by the communities and facilitate them to implement the plans.
- Support to develop business/IGA plan and monitoring of income generation activities for the potential beneficiaries in the community in accordance with project guidelines.
- Facilitate community-based awareness sessions (e.g., courtyard session) as well as support peer groups to facilitate school awareness sessions as well as Organize day observance on disaster preparedness, and different day observations of the project team at the community level.
- Mobilize the community to organize mass awareness activities in the community (Interactive theatre/ Simulation/Mock drill/ creative arts).
- Conduct Community-based preparedness demonstration exercises considering specific hazards (e.g., floods, heatwaves, Lightning, Fire, etc.)
- Support to organize and facilitate meetings, training, and workshop at the community level.
- Support project-supported community groups to organize training sessions for community members, including the selection of participants, and ensuring that training is carried out in accordance with project guidelines.
- Assist the project team with monitoring and documentation of project activities including collection, compilation, and consolidation of data on project-related activities and maintaining relevant records.
- Ensure documentation including photographs of different meetings and events.
- Prepare monthly report and submit to line manager following the deadline mentioned in the implementation guideline of the project.
- Undertake any other work as requested by the line manager.
