Job purpose
The Media Development Officer will work across multiple projects delivering effective capacity development support to different media houses and media practitioners, CSO representatives, Human Right Defenders and sectoral partners through training and close mentoring activities. Under the supervision of the Media Development Manager, he/she will also work to develop relationships with media stakeholders, partner organisations and relevant government apparatus. He/she will contribute to the strengthening of civil society and media development components of the projects and provide day-to-day support to project, research, admin, and production colleagues in BBC Media Action.
Main Duties & responsibilities:
- Assist Media Development Manager to implement the work including identifying key needs in media landscape.
- Working alongside other teams of BBC Media Action, design engaging and effective training sessions and training materials.
- Co-ordinate media capacity development activities, ensuring that deliveries are on track, on time and to the required quality standard.
- Represent BBC Media Action, communicate, liaise and maintain networks with donors, partners and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate with admin, finance, procurement and travel issues and provide assistance to respective focal points.
- Support to multi stakeholders regarding media legal reform, rights, and policy advocacy under the guidance of senior management.
- Deliver effective and engaging training for participants from partner organisations, including travel across the project areas.
- Ensure all activities are delivered following BBC editorial standards.
- Any other tasks commensurate with the role as assigned by the line manager.
The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check may form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
