Job Title: Finance Assistant

Duty Station: Dhaka

Reports To: Finance Manager

Duration: Fixed-term contract till June 2026 with potential scope of extension

Start Date: March 2025

Job purpose

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for day to day support to BBC Media Action – Bangladesh office Finance Team where major responsibilities include financial and accounting record-keeping, checking and processing vouchers and invoices, communication with banks, supporting procurement, maintaining and archiving financial documents and assisting for statutory and donor audits.  

Main Duties & responsibilities

  • Perform accurate recording of all income and expenditure in line with BBC Media Action in-country financial system and in compliance with donor requirement.
  • Check vendor and third-party invoices and supporting documents.
  • Prepare payment vouchers and cheques and online payments with correct budget coding and supporting documentation.
  • Review expense claims for travel, production and petty cash and settlement of advance adjustment.
  • Responsible for calculation of advance income tax and VAT deduction at source from third-party invoices.
  • Check all purchase requests and orders to ensure compliance with internal financial procedures and donor requirements.
  • Liaison with bank personnel to collect financial documents
  • Assist the Admin team in preparing and maintaining the fixed assets register and ensure regular updates in compliance with donor requirements.
  • Communicate in coordination with the Finance Manager the financial status of projects relevant to the country programme.
  • Other duties as required by the Finance Manager and Country Director or his designee

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience in working with donor-funded projects including working knowledge of donor compliance rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge on AIT & VAT deductions.
  • Completed article ship from reputed chartered accountancy firm
  • Strong communication and language skills in Bangla and English
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with financial and non-finance colleagues.

Desirable skills and experiences

  • Commerce graduate
  • Experience in working with a reputed Chartered Accountancy firm

The role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children and adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
